Beth Metzger’s Cuff-to-Cuff

Beth participated in our recent Cuff-to-Cuff sweater knit-along, knitting this great sweater designed by list member Sue Esser. Beth says knitting this sweater was a great learning project with an enjoyable result.

Here are Beth's details: “I have finished my C2C, and I have to say, I am downright proud of myself! This is the first "adult" sweater I have ever completed. I used Red Heart acrylic yarns from my stash - partly because I didn't have the confidence to use a more expensive yarn, and partly because, well, that stash is just so incredibly large that I had to assuage my Stash Guilt somehow.

I did run into a couple of problems, tried an experiment or two, and learned a lot:

  • I was one of the ones whose actual knitting gauge was much larger than the swatch gauge. As a result, I have an FO that will serve more as a light coat than as a sweater. If I had it to do over again - and you never know, one day I might - I would make the sleeves narrower, the length shorter and the collar a little shorter.

  • I used seed stitch for the collar and borders, and I like it. I wish I had stuck with the border colour for a little longer on the cuffs.

  • I also decided to try some cable work in the large area of Colour D near the elbows on the sleeves. It did not show up well at all and was not worth the effort. Again, I learned!”

Thanks for sharing your experiences and photo, Beth!
