Carol Hurt's Projects - Sampler #4

Lady Boucle Jacket

This is the Lady Boucle Jacket from Fiesta Yarns done in Touch loop mohair from Australia. It was knit cuff-to-cuff. The edge is one single crochet row and then another with a backward single crochet (sometimes called the Shrimp Stitch or Crab Stitch). I used a rayon ribbon in purple for the trim.

A button would not have been big enough....it would be very heavy as well and pull down on the V. So I used a shawl clasp made out of abalone which picks up the purples and blues.

This is a very easy pattern to adjust for size and “when” I lose weight I can just overlap the fronts a little more :)

Jackie's Vest with Zap Collar

“Jackie” Vest

This is the “Jackie” vest from Berroco. I made it with Museum in teal and added a deep teal Zap collar. It zips up the front.

Carol's “Becoming Vest"

Here is “The Becoming Vest” from K1C2. I really loved the pattern; Gloria and Susan write very descriptive designs. The biggest plus with this vest is that it can add/subtract 8” - 10” in size by simply moving the hidden, flat button underneath and the fancy button outside.

I made mine with a strand of Tahki Chelsea Silk and a carry-along of Trendsetter Charm eyelash. The pattern itself is a Double Moss stitch which alleviates boredom. It's done on a size 10.5 needle - so it's fairly fast. The v-neck decreases cannot be seen easily on the photo - but they lend a design interest.

Little Yarn Box

Carol's “Little Yarn Box”

Carol posts from time to time about this box, and how it helps her keep ribbon and other novelty yarns feedings smoothly. She thought it might help to be able to actually see it!

Once the ball is secured on the box, it reels off the yarn/ribbon evenly, and thus doesn't twist. The box also has a small drawer for accessories. Carol's LYS (Hearthstone Knits in St. Louis) sells them for $30. 1-314-849-YARN

Carol's Lime Sweater

This sweater was knit from a SandnesGarn pattern, using a Swedish yarn called Rondo in a lime color. I got the booklet (SandnesGarn Rondo #1) and yarn at Jane's Knitting Hutch in Appleton, WI. 1-920-954-9001. SandnesGarn patterns and color cards for this 30% wool and 70% acrylic, machine washable yarn are also available on the web at Bea Ellis Knitwear. I used size 10.5 needles. I added glass beads to the drawstring tassels.

Carol's Rust Brown Sheep Sweater

This sweater was knit from Reynold's Lopi Book #18 (sweater #18 in that book), and I used Lamb's Pride Bulky. I like the seed stitch borders and back detailing. The seed stitch is also in an underarm panel.

I got this book from Jane#146;s Knitting Hutch. When I last checked, she has more copies and her phone number is 1-920-954-9001.
