Carol Hurts Projects - Sampler #6 |
Carols Einstein CoatHeres my completed Einstein from Sally Melvilles book The Knitting Experience. What a fun, fabulous, flattering design from Sally. I made it out of GGH Aspen from KnitPicks in a cream color. Its a finished size 56 and I added four sets of short rows: one under the bottom buttonhole and one under the bottom button, and one on each side seam. I did the wrap on the 26th stitch in all four instances. The side position was determined by dividing my total skirt rows by 4 and putting a set after the first 1/4 and before the last 1/4. They are practically invisible to the naked eye, but gave me about 2 extra through the hip area. The Shape It! Scarf is out of Berroco Optik and took 3 skeins. I then pressed it with a steam iron to get the drape and softness. |

Carol liked this sweater so much, she knit it twice! A Trendsetter/Laura Bryant design (Prism #537, Light Stuff Chevron Pullover, also available in Prism Book #21). See Carol's original Jellybean sweater in her Gallery #2. This one is made of Aquarius (Trendsetter) ribbon, Navy Sunshine (also Trendsetter) and magenta Soft Twist (Berroco). |
Carols Tapestry JacketAha - my Tapestry Jacket from Sweaterkits.com is finished! (Click on Cardigans and scroll down to see the Tapestry Jacket.) This is a very easy way to make an ample jacket with a little math as to the size gussets (side panels) that you need. You could start with a vest pattern from Vogue, Simplicity, etc. Cut down straight from the shoulder line - make and line the vest. Then its just a matter of calculating your side panels that are attached to each sleeve. I used four different fibers. A merino wool, a boucle wool, Rubane ribbon, and a lighter weight wool with a carry-along thread with gold stars. The very last thing I did was knit a seed stitch border that attached around the entire bottom to bring everything together. Back View (will open in a pop-up window) |

The Asymmetrical Vest and Shape It! ScarfAs you can see - I am loving Sally Melvilles new book - The Knitting Experience. I made the Shape It! scarf out of K1C2 Tartelette (used 3) and the Asymmetrical Vest out of Rowan Polar (used 5). The scarf took me about 3 hours to make and the vest took 6 hours. I did change the vest slightly for my ample figure :) I lengthened all pieces by 1. And I put in two shortrows from the bottom, up to the bottom of the first buttonhole and back down again. This little alteration allows my fronts to hang straight instead of separating at the bottom.

The Shape It! shaped scarf pattern is pictured several times in different yarn and colors in the book. It wraps around your neck, drapes, and has 2 nice long ends that hang for effect. I made mine out of 3 skeins of K1C2 Tartelette (ribbon) and then you *steam-iron* it per Sallys instructions to soften the whole thing. Really cool. Kristen on this list made hers at camp this weekend out of a nice wool and Charm carry-along. The whole scarf takes about 3 hours from start to finish.
