Carol Hurt’s “Radiant Shawl”

Carol shares photos of her lovely shawl, and shares the process, “I started my Radiant Shawl from Lucy Neatby (Tradewear Knit Designs) in late December and finished it in January [2005]! The directions are the BEST I've ever seen in a pattern. Thanks, Lucy.

I used teal/blue hand-dyed from Cheryl Oberle. The bling bling and tassels took 2.5 balls of Trendsetter Dune #61.

I added a 12th triangle at each center back. Lucy describes the 3 needle bind off very well, but another thing I did was 1 chain stitch between EVERY bind off. She mentions that you can do it 'ever so often'....but I did it between every stitch. It hangs beautifully.

Lucy showed me, herself, how to make a fluffy tassel. Lay the cut strands on your lap or a table or something...then put the I-cord knot a little short of center. Now cover the knot with the strands as best as you can. Finally, take your palm and go back and forth over the knot to distribute the strands evenly around the knot - tie above, then bring the ends 'down' and tie below. By flattening your palm and going back and forth over the knot it completely covers the knot nice and evenly.

Great garment!!! I know I'll get lots of wear out of this Radiant Shawl.”
