Ample-Knitters Knit-along

The Crayon Box Jacket™ by Chris Bylsma is our latest group knit-along project. Our official “List Enabler,” Carol Hurt, suggested this project, and many listers are rushing to start their jackets! List member Diana in Atlanta is already knitting her Crayon Box (affectionately named “The Jacket Formerly Known as Prince”), and blogging about it at The Yarn Diva.

Check out the Crayon Box and Chris’ other designs at her website, Chris Bylsma Designs. And don't miss the Show & Share section, with lots of fun photos of finished projects! The pattern is not sold directly from Chris’ website, but a number of list member shops sell the pattern. You can order from One Fine Yarn, Elann, Yarn Express, Ruth Sybers, and Yarn Theory.

Designer Chris Bylsma describes the Crayon Box Jacket as “a short boxy, Chanel-style jacket knit one square at a time- but without seams- in a one-of-a-kind blend of colors and fibers.” The pattern is sized from 40"- 64", and knit at 4 sts/inch on #10 needles. More notes from Chris on customizing the jacket for a perfect fit: “The Crayon Box Jacket is easily sized up or down and can be put together like a Lego system -- different size squares on the sleeves than the body, for instance. The sizing is done by adding sts to each square. Two additional sts per square results in one larger size. The largest size on the pattern is 64" and has two additional columns of squares on the back and one additional column on each of the fronts. The sleeves do not have any additional squares since that isn't where you need extra sizing.” Thanks for this info, Chris!

A Yahoo Group has also formed to knit this jacket. Discussions about this project are welcome on the Ample-Knitters list, but you may want to join that group as well. More information is at Yahoo’s Crayon Box Jacket Group.

There's no official online sign-up form for this Knit-Along, but you're welcome to announce your intentions on the list.
