An Ample-Knitters Cuff to Cuff Workshop
| |
|
A group of Ample-Knitters knitted this sweater as a group Knit-A-Long (KAL) starting January, 2004. Though the "official" knit-along is finished, list members are still welcome to join in and knit this fun project! Designer, teacher and list member Sue Esser of SHE Knits has now provided the pattern for us free of charge. The pattern includes a "workshop" section (based on a workshop that Sue usually offers in a classroom setting), and variations for a child's jacket and two hats. |

This pattern is the kind you custom fit for yourself but with a minimum of measuring and math. Both garter and stockinette stitch are used for additional texture. Sue uses four colors in the example shown above, but says you can use as few or many as you like. She also give several options for the cuffs (ribbed, garter, or picot edge). The pattern offers a long version and a shorter, tailored version. Lots of options. And if you choose, it can be an excellent stash buster project! See photos of more options here. As Sue writes, The beauty of any side-to side sweater is that it can be tailored to fit wide & narrow figures - as well as tall & short. The workshop description on Sue's website reads, Besides starting on an actual jacket pattern, the knitter is offered additional techniques for checking gauge, Tubular Cast On, Best Buttonhole, Picot Hem, how to do the Add On, how to work in ends as you go, and the Kitchener Stitch.
Many thanks to Rosie Woodhouse for suggesting this project, and of course to Sue Esser for the original pattern and workshop, and for agreeing to guide us virtually! Stay tuned to this page, and to the Ample-Knitters list, for further developments. | |
