Anita Reynolds

Madison Indiana, USA

Yarn: Still deciding

Starting: Jan 2004

Ann Pellowe

Walpole, MA

Yarn: Undecided, Reynolds Lopi???

Special Plans:
I'm still a beginner. I've knitted some small things (dish cloths, and scarves). I made a doll jacket as a Christmas present that came out nice. This is my first project on this large of a scale (for me), and I'm anxious to take knitting to the next level. Any and all advice will be appreciated.

Starting: When everything is together!

Barbara McFarr

La Follette, TN, USA

Yarn: Not sure yet. Will let you know when I decide.

Special Plans:
Will probably use it as a winter coat as we are moving to Florida in the near future.

Starting: When I get the pattern

Barbara Skoglund

Maplewood, Minnesota, USA

Yarn: Lion Brand Homespun
Lion Brand Woolease Chunky
Lion Brand Kool Wool
Bernat Soft Boucle

Special Plans:
I'm making this for my mother with acrylics since she is a wash and wear ample. I tried to buy discounted yarn, but was afraid colors would clash. It cost quite a bit more to go to Joann's, and the color choice was limited, but I found colors that went together - or at least I hope they go together. BTW - this is my first knit along and I'm very excited.

Starting: When the pattern arrives.

Beth Metzger

Waterloo, Ontario

Yarn: Stash yarns, worsted weight, mostly burgundy, green, blue and brown - or maybe not? It may surprise even me!

Bette Block

Deerfield, Il, 60015. USA

Yarn: Stash stuff--Lopi, Mohair, and other wools. A wee bit of this and that.

Special Plans:
I travel a lot and Chrisanne Gniechwitz's version without cuffs or bottom ribbing looks great. I am so excited to have found your web site! It looks like a perfect solution for someone like me who loves to knit but has problems increasing patterns to allow for broad shoulders and a spare tire around the waist.

Starting: As soon as the pattern arrives if I am not already in Lond (August) or Alaska (September.)

Bliss

Richland, IN

Yarn: Colinette mohair in Jamboree colorway, Lamb's Pride bulky in a medium blue, turquoise and fuscia. (I think). I may be adding or subtracting colors as I work this out. Also considering purple.

Special Plans:
I want the sleeves to be more like a kimono, folded back - perhaps seed stitch. I like the stand-up collar. I'm not sure about buttons yet, perhaps clasps instead. I am open for ideas for the bottom. I don't need anything to pull "in" around this area, perhaps hemmed with a looser fit (no band, use a facing?).

Starting: Any day - by the end of Feb.

Brenda Stephens AKA Brenda in AZ

Phoenix, AZ, USA

Yarn: dunno yet

Special Plans:
no, except to make it for me and wear it. That's pretty special to me.

Starting: soon as I get the yarn

Carol Ames

Bradenton, FL

Yarn: Have 800+ yds ea. of Manos-Wildflowers and a Wool in Oatmeal and plan to purchase another medium light tone wool, possibly a Camel color, but haven't found it yet.

Special Plans:
I think without the cuffs on sleeves and bottom would make a sleeker, possibly slimmer look for me. Living in Florida I'd probably wear the jacket/coat more without the extra warmth of cuffs. For whatever reason, the smaller stripes seem to be more appealing, I'm even considering 2 rows of each color in a set pattern, but I'm afraid the pretty variegated manos would be lost in the stripes. Need to swatch when I get that 3rd yarn.

Starting: When I get the pattern and 3rd yarn!

Carol Torgeson

Bellingham, WA USA

Yarn: Undecided

Special Plans:
Modify the wrist and sweater bottom to create a jacket rather than a sweater.

Starting: As soon as I get tax stuff to the accountant!

Cathie Underwood

Montrose, MI USA

Yarn: ?

Special Plans:
I just want it to fit & to finish it.

Cathy

Grants Pass, Oregon

Yarn: I'm going to pull out all my handspun that has been patiently waiting in my stash, and see what kind of a color combo I can come up with. Probably something purple-y or turquoise-y.

Starting: 2/2004

Claire N' Warmer

Eau Claire, WI

Yarn: Lopi and some eyelash or boucle for texture - variations of blue with cream.

Special Plans:
For my Favorite Mother-in-la! Yes She is 80+ young and the elevator goes all the way to the top! This is my first KAL I am not a big contributor to the digest but I do enjoy reading all the comments and the TIPS.. My pattern arrived today 2-3-04 here we go!

Starting: Today

Colleen Humphreys

Concord, MA

Yarn: Stash, maybe doubled with something that stays constant throughout...I think....

Special Plans:
I'll do the short version, to make a casual sweater to replace my boiled wool pendleton jacket.

Starting: As soon as I finish a little snowflake sweater for my niece...almost done!

Dana Foss

Dixon, CA

Yarn: Hand spun. Maybe a mixture of mohairs, wools and Alpaca

Special Plans:
I saw a great sweater on a girl just yesterday. It was knit in the round, but had stripes of black-and-white varigated, red, yellow white and black. It was striking. I think something alternating varigated with solids, but not sure on colors yet.

Starting: soon

Debbi Young

Forest Hill, WV, USA

Yarn: Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride in two or three shades of blue and purple Ironstone Mohair. One skein of handspun, handpainted yarn which was a gift a long time ago

Special Plans:
I will be doing it at a gauge of 4spi, because the majority of my yarn is Lamb's Pride worsted.

Starting: January 30

Debbie Kollar

Canberra, Australia

Yarn: 8ply

Special Plans:
Just for me or maybe a gift for my sister

Starting: soon in the next week (6/28/07)

Diana McDonald

Vermilion, Ohio USA

Yarn: Knitted worsted

Special Plans:
to give as a gift

Starting: 10/2/07

Special Plans:
Just to have fun with the making...... and the wearing, once it is finished!

Starting: Soon

Doris Wiechman

Temple City, CA

Yarn: Haven't decided.

Special Plans:
None.

Starting: 2/8/04

Dorleska

Vanderbilt , Michigan

Yarn: Red Heart yarn , I have a multicolor and 6 colors that match really well and I am working them together. 1 strand of the multicolor with each color.

Special Plans:
Yes, this is going to be mine.

Starting: 1/25/04

Elaine Foy

Lexington, KY

Yarn: I'm using Pingouin Fleur de Laine in teals and grays from my stash, along with some Fiber Artist handpainted blue, pink, and purple mohair boucle that I got from Grand Rivers yarns. I haven't actually swatched yet, so I'm not sure whether I'll double the yarn or just knit singly and adjust accordingly.

I may also spin up some white mohair from my stash of fiber to add more texture and another color.

Special Plans:
Yes. My plan is to finish it, and then to wear it. That's a bigger plan than you might guess.

Starting: after I finish my Kureyon sweater

Elizabeth DeHority

Charlotte, NC

Yarn: lots of stash with a few new things to fill out the colors - very bright teal, pink, bright green... wide variety of textures and weights, so will combine for uniform gauge.

Special Plans:
My main goal is to finish it... I usually knit socks or very portable things, due to my busy children (including a baby in the hospital as often as out), so this might be a real challenge. I may need to modify the pattern to knit each half separately and call it a cuff-to-middle-cuff-to-middle sweater.

Starting: As soon as the pattern arrives!

Ellen Banks

Litchfield CT

Yarn: Some Manos in dark red, lighter red heather, and red gray along with Garn Studio Highlander in red/grey/beige, and beige.

Special Plans:
May start without the cuffs if I can change my mind and add them later.

Starting: as soon as I get the pattern

Emma Crew

Seattle, WA

Yarn: Going to shop my stash for brightly colored wools. I have some handpainted loopy mohair I may combine with some lighter-weight yarns for added heft.

Starting: Once I finish Braids.

Fran Tanner

Fresno, CA

Yarn: I will have to raid my ample (no pun intended) inventory of stash for the yarn.

Special Plans:
Will start this after I finish the Summer Braids/Braids KAL that our "Sheeper Than Therapy" knitting guild is embarking on.

Glenda Sample

Kent, WA

Yarn: Debbie Bliss cashmerino aran; sonshine, koko

Special Plans:
To wear it for my daughter's graduation.

Starting: As soon as pattern arrives

Glenna Stansifer

Independence, CA, USA

Yarn: Navy Noro Sahara for cuffs, front & neck bands (Color A, in other words); Dark denim Bernat Whistler merino for Color D, the "Main Color"; and various yarns in blues and creams for Colors B & C.

Special Plans:
Instead of ribbed cuffs, I'm doing straight sleeves with garter st cuffs. When the pattern calls for stockinette st, I use my "smooth" yarns, and when it calls for garter st, I use "furry" yarns.

Starting: February 12, 2004

Heather Davies

Guelph, ON, Canada

Yarn: Stash yarns in various shades of green, beige and black. At least currently. :)

So far it's very motley crew in terms of fibre content. Wool, cotton and acrylic all represented.

Special Plans:
It's for me! My first handknitted just for me sweater. About time, darnit.

Starting: Feb 2004

Iris Armstrong

West Des Moines, IA

Yarn: Lots of stash in reds, creams, black, gray.

Special Plans:
This will be my first attempt at a sweater since returning to knitting, and the first attempt at my current ampleness. I'm encouraged to make the attempt knowing I'll have a ready resource if and/or when I run into questions. AK's is a great group of knitters always so willing to share!

Starting: When pattern arrives.

Jackie Brewer

Champaign Illinois

Yarn: Stash yarns - mainly yarn I've spun, plus single skeins I couldn't resist buying. May be a smaller guage, 4.5 stiches an inch or so, but I haven't yet swatched. There will be about three dozen different yarns, mainly purples with some blues and teals.

Special Plans:
Mostly just to finish it, without getting too far behind in other projects. It will be a casual all-occasion sweater for me.

Starting: February

Jackie

Roseland, Louisiana,USA

Yarn: I'm not sure yet

Special Plans:
This one is for me

Starting: I will start as soon as I receive my pattern.

Jackie

Quincy, MI USA

Yarn: Not sure, maybe Lion Brand Homespun

Starting: When everyone else does

Jan Musick

Potlatch, Idaho USA

Yarn: Probably odd lots of homespun that I have left over from a dozen previous projects. If not my homespun, then probably Brown Sheep yarn from my stash. Heaven FORBID I may need to go shopping for more YARN. *g*

Special Plans:
It's for me, just something different, for fun, to keep warm.

Starting: Probably as soon as the pattern arrives.

Janet Hedley

Corning, CA USA

Yarn: This a good question! Am thinking of using some lumpy-bumpy variegated handspun and still need 3 more yarns to go with it. I do have other possibilities though - decisions, decisions...

Special Plans:
To finish it and then to wear it - proudly :^)

Starting: As soon as I pick my yarns

Janet Hirschland

Canandaigua, NY 14424, USA

Yarn: Don't know yet, just sent for pattern

Special Plans:
It will be for me.

Starting: Soon as I get the pattern

Jenanne

Waynesville, NC, USA

Yarn: I'm using Jaeger's Como for my main yarn and supplementing with Prism's Wild Stuff, Trendsetter's Metal and King Tut cotton. I'm going for a single colour, multi-texture look.

Special Plans:
I'll be taking Sue's class in Asheville at the beginning of February and making most of my design decisions then. I can tell already that I'd like the picot edgings, and I'll want to incorporate seed stitch into my sweater as the yarn I'm using gives GREAT stitch definition.

Starting: 2004 Feb 7

Jenny Thompson

Thornton, Colorado

Yarn: Stash yarns - I have 10 boxes of yarn in the basement I need to use up before I should buy any more.

Special Plans:
Just an everyday sweater for when it gets cold. Maybe wear to work or just to stay warm. I will also make several vests with fancy yarns I have. I want vertical stripes as I am a large woman.

Starting: NOW (August 2007)

Joan Grahlfs

St. Louis, MO

Yarn: Gedifra Easy in sort of dusty aqua, Berella Whistler in Brown, and a little Whistler in Ecru -- for now. Still making swatches of a couple of other yarns.

  • 720 yards of a bit darker lavendar
  • 360 yards of deep rose
  • 360 yards of light grey

I haven't figured out yet how I am splitting these up but it will come to me!

Special Plans:
I am thinking with all those pastels this will make a great spring jacket/coverup. Easter-time is still quite cold around here.

Starting: ASAP! grin

Karen Sanders

Rochester NY

Yarn: Major Stash Busting Project! Am planning to use various shades of white - off-white - perhaps lt beige

Starting: 2/1/04

Karen Viglione Lauterwasser

Winchester, MA USA

Yarn: No idea on yarn yet, Most of my stash is very old (pre-children and pre-ample status) - things like Dazzleaire! I will definitley have to shop a bit to get texture variation and interest.

Special Plans:
I always wear a jacket or overshirt indoors and for running in and out of the car when the weather is cool/cold. I would love to have something I made for myself that is a little more elegant and interesting than my beloved plum-colored Polarfleece shirt. I would love to add pockets of some kind, since i am always carrying things like kid's nail scissors, chapstick, spare change, etc. and not all pants have pockets.

Starting: As soon as I get the pattern, the yarn, and finish the felted socks I am making now and the baby sweater (the one with the owls) that I have promised to someone next - then it is my turn!

Kate Sanderson

Yarn: Haven't decided yet. I may adapt the pattern to sport weight and make a sweater for the baby.

Special Plans:
See above!

Starting: Not sure...

Kathy V

Yarn: Hopefully yarns from my stash. If not, then I guess I will have to shopping.......

Special Plans:
Not really. I am hopefully going to do this one for ME. It should be a perfect winter coat for Myrtle Beach.

Starting: When I get the pattern and yarns together.....

Katy Davidson

Bryan, Texas

Yarn: Stash yarn. I am going to see if the many packages of tapestry yarn I have picked up "cheap" will work. If not, I will die some Lion Brand Fisherman's with Kool Aid.

Special Plans:
I will wear it!!

Starting: as soon as I get the pattern

Kim Callan

Jenkintown, PA

Yarn: I don't think I have anything in my stash for this (I tend to stash non-bulky yarns), so I'm going to have to go shopping (yeay!).

Special Plans:
Hopefully, to finish it (sometimes a problem with me) and wear it with pride.

Starting: by the end of January

Laurie Drew

Washougal, WA US

Yarn: I still don't know. I'm kind of thinking about basic black (or charcoal) and some Noro Kureyon. Let the yarn do the coloring for me. The smart thing to do would make this a stash buster. But I'm rarely smart when it comes to yarn! ;-)

Special Plans:
Looking at the design of the sweater with a few alterations (loose sleeve cuffs and hem so it looks more like a kimono) makes me want to make a dark and exotic sweater. It could end up being a beautiful and dressy work sweater. I'm a corporate trainer so I am often in front of a room of people. Some audiences require that look nicer than usual.

Starting: Mid Feb.

Lee Brooks

Lawton, Oklahoma, USA

Yarn: Reynolds Lopi

Starting: as soon as pattern arrives

Starting: February (without handspun) or March (with handspun)

Liz Watson

Saginaw, MI

Yarn: hopefully, from my stash

Starting: Feb., 2004

Lorna Campbell

Glasgow, Scotland

Yarn: Various DK yarns in my stash.

Special Plans:
I am going to make a child size version by following the stitch counts but using DK and 4mm needles. That way I get to 1)use stash yarn, 2)see how the sweater turns out, and 3)make something for a special child somewhere.

Starting: February

Lynda Carraher

Umatilla OR (USA)

Yarn: Stash! I have some steel grey, some wonderful fuzzy white stuff with black slubs in it (my granddaughter calls it "that Dalmation yarn"), and some blues -- all from stash. Oh, I did buy some Schulana "Romantica" in ice blue -- wonderfully soft and fuzzy.

Special Plans:
I'd like to go more "jacket-y" (is that a word?) and would like to close it with clasps or possibly a zipper rather than buttons & buttonholes.

Starting: When pattern arrives

Marianne Riopell

Washington, IL

Yarn: I already have a black boucle yarn...looking for the other colors. I love the pattern on one in the gallery, am looking for similar yarns.

Special Plans:
I think on this first one I will do buttonholes, but we shall see.

Starting: As soon as I have the yarn and pattern.

marion frazer

Special Plans:
THIS IS FOR ME........HOORAY.......

Yarn: Stash yarn... as soon as I can get it where I can see it after I move the middle of March. I think I'll use blues, purples and cream.....

Special Plans:
It'll make a nice coat for our Bay Area 'winters'. I'm from OK, and winters here just don't feel like winter. More like fall and spring.

Starting: Middle of March

Mary Holmlund

St. Paul, MN; USA

Yarn: So far I have a chunky blue-green wool from Rowan and a deep blue-green microfiber ribbon from Fiesta Yarns. I'm trying to decide on at least one, maybe two contrasting colors for the other yarns.

Special Plans:
I haven't a clue.

Starting: May 2004

Mary Ruel

Kankakee, Illinois USA

Yarn: Need to run to my yarn shop today....let you know later

Starting: Jan 22

Mary Ann Kirchhoffer

Ridge on eastern Long Island, New York

Yarn: I have a stash of handspun gray, cream and royal. Will look for some black (have a dark brown/black BL fleece I could spin up or some black alpaca roving, hmmm?)

Starting: Mid-February

Merry Schiff

Pacifica CA US

Yarn: not sure yet

Starting: shortly (2/20/05)

Michele Kesler

Rutherfordton, NC

Yarn: Everything in my stash that is coral! Mostly I'm using Lion Brand Kool Wool in Melon with LB Homespun in Coral Gables, LB Fun Fur in Mango (variegated orangey-coral), coral Lang Kyoto, Bovidae loopy mohair hand-dyed shades of coral, and Colinette One Zero in coral, pink, and navy variegated.

Special Plans:
I'm doing a cross between Sue's pattern (she did her workshop for our guild a few years ago, but I never made one til now!) and the Amelia Jacket from K1C2, plus my own weird sense of knitting! Also, I'm not only combining a lot of yarns, I'm also combining stitch patterns for differing textures. As of today, 1/20/04, I have both sleeves done and have started on the body of one side. Instead of going cuff to cuff, I'm going cuff to center times 2! That way I won't run out of yarn before making the two sides match; I'll just graft the backs together when both halves are done.

Starting: Started on January 1, 2004

Michelle

Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania

Yarn: Not exactly sure what yarn I will use yet. The pictures in the gallery give me LOTS of ideas... oh the possibilities.....

Special Plans:
I think I may do a more "kimono" style rather than the cuff end of the sleeves.

Starting: Feb. 1

Nic

London, UK

Yarn: Not completely decided yetI think it may be all a bit random but I'm working towards browns, oranges, golds and just a hint of turquoise as the colourway. There will probably be some colinette yarns in there and some of my own home dyed yarns.

Special Plans:
No special plans, just to complete this project without being side tracked by knitting items for customers.

Starting: ASAP

Pam Black

Burlington KY

Yarn: Lane Borgosesia Knitaly, Plymouth Encore Chunky, and Online Linie 31 Scala in a teal, blue, purple and fuchia colorway.

Starting: As soon as the pattern arrives

Pat in Indiana

Rockville, IN; US

Yarn: Not sure; but thought of using handspun of which I have a lot.

Special Plans:

Starting: After my pattern come, probably

pat moran

yakima wa usa

Yarn: Lamb's Pride Worsted in black, with assorted yarns used as the second strand.

Starting: when my pattern arrives & when I can get to my stash (remodeling going on...)

Yarn: Black Water Abbey in autumn for the cuffs and collar, my own handspun for the rest. Some Jacob dyed with black walnuts, some alpaca, cream wool, some darker brown.

Starting: as soon as I get the pattern

Paulette Rand

Fairfield, CA

Yarn: Haven't decided yet

Special Plans:
Yes, I plan to wear it out! Meaning, to wear it until it wears out!

Starting: as soon as possible

Rosie Woodhouse

Lancaster County, PA, USA

Yarn: Main Color - Bartlett Yarn, bulky in Heathered Denim
Accent Colors - Baa Baa Joe's Bulky in Cranberry, Teal, Blue, Gray, Heathered Light Brown, and Heathered Dark Natural.

Special Plans:
Wanted to have a more tailored jacket style instead of sweater. I'm doing garter st. edgings. Started the sleeve cuff with 4 rows garter st on #8 needles (made nice firm edge) and then switched to the 10 1/2 needles and st. st. I'm using the Denim color every 2 rows, with the other accent colors in 2 row stripes on each side of the denim. I'm increasing the sleeve 2 sts every 4 rows. I'm doing a garter st. ridge of the Denim, every other time. (every 10 rows). I will need to adjust the body size when I get there.

Starting: Started Jan. 29, 2004

Ruth Sybers

Monticello, WIsconsin, USA

Starting: as soon as I get the pattern

Sarah Beach

Columbia, Maryland

Yarn: Baby loop mohair (pink/purple/blue variegated), plain wool yarn in the same colors, solid pink, solid blue, solid purple

Special Plans:
I'm using provisional cast ons and doing all of the button bands and cuffs last so I can adjust the fit as needed. I'm not following the color pattern exactly since I don't have enough of some of the colors (that's why I'm using 5 instead of 4.) I'm making it a little shorter since I am too!

Starting: I've finished one sleeve and a third of the body. (2/14/03)

Shelda Eggers

Columbia MO

Yarn: I have a whole container of yarns I've been collecting for a "whiter shades of pale" kind of look. When a local yarn shop went out of business in the 90s, I bought two pounds (yes, really) of creamy mohair, and I also have some cream wool my parents brought me from a trip to New Zealand in 1987! There are also several other cream and white skeins that I've picked up here and there. These are all well-aged stash yarns, and I think they would be fun for this jacket. I imagine with the bulky weight yarn and the mohair, this can be a winter coat for me!

Special Plans:
I haven't done a bulky weight sweater before, so this is kind of a new deal for me. I think I may add some interesting textures in some of the stripes, and maybe seed stitch borders. I'm not exactly sure yet, but that will be part of the fun!

Starting: By the end of January

Sheron Goldin

Columbia, SC, USA

Yarn: Plymouth Enocre

Starting: This week, soon as I finish the shawl I am making for someone else.

Sherrye

Bedford, IN 47421 USA

Yarn: dark red, burgundy, wine, etc with black accents. Mostly stash leftovers, some with lots of texture, some boucle, and chenille. I will have to augment with some yarn purchased just for this project, hopefully something easy care, because I want this to be a very useable jacket.

Special Plans:
I hope to make a looser cuff; and would like to modify the neckline and add a shawl collar (as I always want to do with my cardigans, because I get cold neck) but am not certain I have the brains to do that! Maybe a separate and small shawl to wear with?

Starting: As soon as I receive the pattern

Shirla Ghadaki

Waldorf, MD, USA

Yarn: Skacel Airione

Starting: 2/2004 when I get the yarn

Special Plans:

plan to make the shorter version in a variegated yarn

Starting: As soon as the pattern lands in my mailbox!

Yvonne Davies

London, England

Yarn: I have a boxful of vintage "Orinocco" in shades of cream, greys, rose and purple. I'm hoping I can get gauge with this without having to do too much maths!
