Cyndi's MTAS
(“More Than a Sweatshirt”)

Cyndi from British Columbia writes:

“I used some Naturally Luxury DK (50% wool/50% mohair) that I had “curing” in my stash. I didn't have enough of any one colour to do the entire sweater, so I improvised. I used two strands held together throughout changing colours as you see.

I had four colours to work with: natural, light teal, medium teal and dark teal. I held two strands together throughout. I started with 1 strand of natural and 1 strand of light teal, then I dropped the natural strand and added the medium teal, then I dropped the light teal and added the dark teal.

When I got down towards the bottom of the sweater and the cuffs of the sleeves I realized that I didn't have enough of the dark teal to completely finish so I improvised again and put it a lighter stripe at the bottom. On the sleeves I then finished the cuffs with two strands of dark teal and the i-cord bind off. For the bottom of the body I used two strands of dark teal and didn't have quite enough to finish the ribbing so changed to two lighter colours to do the last couple of rounds of ribbing and the i-cord bind off.

By the time I finished the sweater I had only a few yards of the lighter colours left over!

All in all I am quite pleased with the way the patterning turned out. I started the sweater on October 6, 2001 and finished it on October 31, 2001. It is a very cuddly sweater and I've been using it as a winter coat so far during this mild winter we've been having this year.”
