Debbi's Textured Sweater

Debbi Young’s Textured Sweater

Debbi sent this beautiful photo and writes, “The Ample Knitters list is such a wonderful resource. I’ve been waiting for a long time to lose weight before I knit something terrific for myself. Thanks to all of you, I stopped waiting.

The sweater was inspired by one worn by a woman in a department store. Hers was cream-colored, zippered, chunky and hooded, and the textured stitches were in horizontal bands. Mine looks nothing like the inspiration, except that it’s textured and heavy.

I didn’t use a commercial pattern, but instead just hoped that making it up as I went along would work out. Amazingly, it did! It’s worked in the round to the armholes, then separated front and back. The sleeves are knit in from the top down. The wool, held two strands together, was something anonymous and minimally processed. Lovely to work with -- although very hard on my arms and hands by the time I was finishing it up.

Thanks again for being there for all of our shapes and sizes!”
