The Ample-Knitters list is doing a “knit-along” project to knit the Diamond Patch Sweater designed by Jill Vosburg of Just One More Row. This is a fun “modular” knitting project.

The picture on the right is of Ample-Knitters lister Carol Hurt wearing her Diamond Patch sweater knit in Prism Bon-Bon.

The green knitting in the background is a scan of Ample-Knitters list-owner Shelda Eggers' sweater knit in Agate Green Berroco Linor.

Order the Diamond Patch Sweater pattern (and others) from designer Jill Vosburg here.

Ample-Lister Pat Kirtland's “Amplitudes” tunic and vest variations can be ordered here. (These are offered with Jill's permission.)

DP Hints from the Ample-Knitters list, collected by Diamond Patch coordinator Susan Blake.

DP hints from Carol Hurt & Betsey Hoyt on Jill Vosburg's pages.

Interested listers can contact the project coordinator, Susan Blake, to get a survey and be added to the list of participants. Name: Alice Dodd
Location: Springfield, MO

Yarn: I have two yarns on order - Crystal Palace Romance (a blend of rayon & wool) in Persian Turquoise and Crystal Palace Caprice (rayon & cotton blend) in Silver Blue. I'm not familiar with either of these yarns so hope one of them will work.

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: I'm going to do the diagonal rows. I think it sounds easier for the first try. I also plan to add longer sleeves. Possibly elbow length or maybe 3/4.

Size Adjustments: I plan to use five diamonds across so the diamonds will be smaller. I am working on the Magical Mitered Vest (another of Jill's patterns) and used more squares (smaller size squares) to get the fit and like the way that looks.

Comments: Looking forward to this being a fun group project. I've loved the pictures of this sweater and know I will enjoy wearing it. It's so good to finally be able to knit something for ME that I like.

Location: Central France

Barbara

This a picture of me wearing my second dp, taken at my DH's son's wedding in England. I made the beret as well, as I look like a mushroom in most hats, and the bride wanted us to wear hats!

Yarn: Bergere de France cotolin, which is a blend of cotton, linen and visvose. not quite variegated, but with little flecks in it, in a cherry red.

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: Diagonal.

Size Adjustments: More stitches, and smaller needles to get a finer fabric. the yarn is quite fine nearer a fingering weight than sport weight.

Comments: This is my second, I did the first as a horizontal row using three shades of green in pure cotton. This one will be tunic length and I may do sleeves.

Name: Bev Heitke
Location: Stoughton, WI

Yarn: Berocco Glace.

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: Horizontal method.

Size Adjustments: Changing needle size.

Name: Brenda
Location: Iowa

Yarn: Charmille from Penguion---it's been aging very gracefully for about 11-12 years in my stash now!

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: I'm going Horizontal. During the first knit-along, someone came up with the idea of knitting the first two rows of diamonds at the same time. I started by knitting two patches separately, then joined them together by picking up stitches from both of them and knitting the third diamond. So far, I've been gaining about 3/4" in width at each join.

Size Adjustments: I'm using a size 5 needle---that's what my yarn seems to like. I did cast on more stitches, too, and my diamonds are 5” across. Added to the “expansion” I've been getting when I add the second row of patches, I'm thinking it should fit when it's done.

Comments: If this fits, I would like to buy a hand-dyed ribbon or some other slinky, drapey yarn for it. I think the yarn I'm using may be a little on the “cottony” side for this project, but since I only paid $1 per skein for it and it's been laying around here so long, I figure I won't be out too much if it's just a total disaster. (So many other people had so much trouble with the fit last time that I feel a little intimidated.)

Name: Carol G.
Location: Valrico, FL

Yarn: I'm not sure at this point. I bought some Linguine for it, but I don't think it's going to drape well enough to suit me. I was looking today at the Elann site and thinking of the linen/rayon combo. But truthfully, I could prolly find something in my stash w/o ordering more yarn!

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: I don't know. I am open to suggestions from others as to which works best.

Size Adjustments: I think I will adjust with gauge and sts....I need about 46-48 inches. I was advised to try to work to three triangles across, each measuring 8 inches. That's as far as I got.

Comments: If someone has saved all of the previous comments to the list on the DP, I would love to have a copy of it. Have had my DP pattern for a year now and am anxious to finally use it and have an FO for summer.

Name: Carol Hurt
Location: Fenton, MO

Yarn & Plans: I will doing doing the horizontal version, like I did before. I am going to alternate 3 yarns and have them spiral up the tunic version....Berroco Smart Cotton, Berroco Glace and Trendsetter Sunshine - all in the same evergreen color. I have a beautiful new velvet skirt in the same color for next Christmas! The Cotton and the Glace should provide a nice contrast for the “glitzy” sunshine.

Size Adjustments: I will cast on 52 sts with a size 9, then graduate towards the shoulders with an 8 and a 7. I don't know about the sleeve length yet - probably just above the elbow. My sweater should finish to a 51”- 52” bust - I measure 46” and again, I will knit my patches to equal 46”. Then with the second row I expect to gain 5-6” ease.

Name: Carol Myers
Name: Carolyn
Name: Cate Williams
Name: Cecelia Kretzer

Name: Celia Darbyshire
Location: Winchester, England

Yarn: An anonymous cone of linen-coton blend ribbon which I have dyed green/blue/purple.

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: Horizontal - probably.

Size Adjustments: More stitches.

Comments: I have already made one DP and love it so much I must have another! I look forward to making it alongside other knitters, albeit 3000 miles or more away.

Name: Chrisanne Gniechwitz
Location: Oroville CA, USA

Yarn: Cotton Flake.

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: Diagonal rows.

Size Adjustments: I knit very loosely, so needle size is an automatic change. I'll probably change the number of stitches to increase size.

Comments: I'll be doing the tunic length, and adding on to sleeve length as well.

Name: Christine Buckley
Location: Chicago, IL

Yarn: Two cones of variegated Classic Elite Metro (100% rayon).

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: Horizontal method with 5 diamonds across.

Size Adjustments: I like smaller diamonds in this yarn, so 5 diamonds across, since my diamond swatch worked on #7 needles comes out at 6 inches across, and I'd like a very roomy tunic length.

Comments: In doing several swatches, what I found makes my bottom edge look better is casting on to a number 9 needle, and then beginning to knit with number 7s, so the bottom is definitely loose.

Name: Daphne Basnet
Location: Reservoir, Melbourne Australia, bottom left hand corner of Australia.

Yarn: One in a rayon ribbon type yarn that my brother sent me from England, and another soft shiny wisteria blue cotton. My friend who is a much better knitter will make the ribbon one. I will plod along with the easier cotton.

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: Most likely horizontal in the round, worked a treat for the last one.

Are you planning to adjust the size by more diamonds, changing needle size/gauge, casting on more stitches?: Of course. I am large and these two yarns knit completely differently. plus I think I would like the ribbon with lots of smaller diamonds and the cotton much larger diamonds.

Comments: I have never done a knit along before, I am not a fast knitter, But I will try to keep up.

Daphne

Here's Daphne's first Diamond Patch, completed before this Knit-along began, in multicolors!

Name: Donna Costa
Location: Rhode Island

Yarn: Berrocco Linsey (25% Linen, 25% Cotton, 50% Acrylic) in a light blue/white combo. Usually I prefer deeper, stronger colors, but I have plenty of the Linsey (which I purchased from a friend at a bring-and-buy sale during our local sewing group meeting), so I figured I'd try the first one with this yarn. It's jeans-friendly, so it will be versatile even though I don't usually go for the lighter colors.

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: I'm working in the Diagonal Rows method.

Size Adjustments: Don't think I will need to do any adjustments, but time will tell!

Comments: Except for my blathering about the yarn in #2 above, can't think of anything right now, but I'll be sure to pipe up later....

Name: Eileen B
Location: Portland OR

Yarn: Fiesta Gelato in the color “Clematis,” purple and green. It is VERY slippery, but that's what best for this design, I think.

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: I'm going diagonal. Partly because I'm too impatient to make six squares before it begins to look like something <grin>. But also, this yarn is expensive and I didn't want to cut it any more than necessary, in case it didn't work and I needed to frog.

Size Adjustments: My squares are 5.5” across for a finished diameter of 33”. This is for my 12 yo DD. I thought I'd add a row (she's long and lean) but it looks like it might be plenty long enough with the three rows.

Comments: I really love the way this looks and how quickly it comes together. Even with work, etc. I can do approx. 3-4 squares a week.

Here's Eileen's Finished Sweater!

Eileen's DP Front Eileen's DP Back

Name: Elizabeth Bailey
Location: The coast of Maine (Brunswick)

Yarn: I've started (gotten up to the “divide for back & front”) in Mexican Wave...acrylic...but now too sticky to be really comfortable with in hot weather, so it's on hold until cooler weather. Meanwhile, I'm swatching in Cotton Fleece & finding much better definition & overall look to the piece so far.

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: Working horizontally as recommended.

Size Adjustments: Tunic length. I've gone to larger diamonds, but am “tucking it in” as I've gotten to the bust by going down two needle sizes.

Comments: I'm one of the “what's the tension NOW?” knitters who always uses circular even when straight knitting, with a Continental knit. Also, I had to change from Bamboo needles to Inox Express then back to a different brand of circular Bamboo. (No WONDER my gauge is weird!) Much of this has been due to horizontal knitting with left elbow having a knitting pillow, and the inability to knit for more than 10 minutes at a time. Ah, well.....first one is an experiment & will become a school sweater (I'm an Art Teacher).

Name: Fae Hamilton
Location: Redwood City, CA

Yarn: Berroco Linor, in several different colors.

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: Horizontal.

Size Adjustments: More stitches.

Name: Gene S Byrge

Name: Ginger Hawley
Location: Olympia, WA

Ginger

Here is a picture of my finished DP. I have been hearing about this sweater for over a year so I am really part of the first knit-along. The cotton yarn was a door prize and I have no information on it. I used 7's then 6's and the 42” size. It is the fastest that I have ever knit a sweater and I love it. While working on it I was a guest at the Anacortes, WA knitting guild meeting and several people requested the pattern information so Jill should be getting more NW orders as a result. In fact I heard that someone is making a gold metallic version to wear over black. Should be very smart.

Name: Hazel Verster

Name: Hollie Dean
Location: Shelby, North Carolina

Yarn: Not sure, am open to suggestions.

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: Not sure yet.

Size Adjustments: I'll most likely have to make some adjustments, my gauge is never like anyone else's.

Comments: I am really interested in what works best for everyone as far as the yarn and about the horizontal or diagonal method, I'm an experienced knitter but illness has made me feel like a beginner at times.

I must say, I love the way the sweater looks and want mine to be a great finish so I am searching diligently for the right yarn so if you have suggestions let me know.

Name: Honeybear
Location: Maine, at the top of Sebago Lake

Yarn: It is a cotton, acrylic, blend (but I forgot the name) it's coming by mail.

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: I'll need help with this. I am an experienced knitter. Should I give it a try or start with the basics?

Size Adjustments: I'm not sure here either. I need to get my yarn in hand and start swatching.

Comments: I have this pattern and am anxious to try it especially with the group.

Name: Joan Alby
Location: Wisconsin

Yarn: Bernat Club Soft

Comments: This is my first DP and I just sent for my pattern, so I don't know about adjusting the size. I usually wear a 3X. I'm looking forward to the new knitting experience and experience of communicating with a group.

Name: JoAn Smith
Location: Goodrich, Texas

Yarn: I haven't dug into the stash, may use cotton, or a cotton/acrylic blend. I'll have to swatch first before I can answer the other questions. I'm finishing up my #2 CNC.

Name: Judith Mason Pool. I prefer to be called Judith.
Location: Yardely, Pennsylvania

Yarn: Noro. Silk Garden (silk, Kid Mohair and Wool). A variegated in shades of green, blue and purple.

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: Diagonal.

Are you planning to adjust the size by more diamonds, changing needle size/gauge, casting on more stitches?: Yes to all of the above, I will be using Pat Kirtland's (of Yarn Barn fame) adaptation of the DP. Calls for ten diamonds around the hem and results in a tunic. Have already done almost three rows and the gauge was off so am sizing down the diamonds and beginning again [sob! Sob!]

Comments: Have discovered that if I cast on with a needle one size larger than I will knit with that the bottom row edges don't seem to curl as much.

Name: Karen #1
Name: Karen #2
Name: Kay Ikola

Name: Kris Sudduth
Location: Kemp, Tx (southeast of DFW area)

Here's a swatch of the sweater Kris is working on.

Kris' DP in progress

Yarn: Two single strands. One is a coned cotton that I acquired in a trade last year and the other is a cotton/acrylic blend named Samba from Canada. I had no idea what to do with these yarns...but this project is perfect!

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: After reading the pattern booklet...I believe I will go with the horizontal method this go around.

Size Adjustments: Well I swatched with a #8 and did 40 stitches and got gauge...I think I will stick with this as I have noticed that when I get comfortable with a project I tend to loosen things up...so this should give me enough play room to not be tight...or lets hope so!

Comments: I can't tell you how neat it was to see pictures of “real women” modeling this top, it made all the difference and convinced me that I could do this and it look good too!

Name: Lark Coggins
Location: San Antonio, TX

Yarn: Dark pink Connecticut Cotton (I finally decided after swatching several yarns in my stash)

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: Horizontal.

Size Adjustments: I will cast on more stitches and enlarge diamond.

Comments: I am a slow knitter and not very experienced. I am learning a lot and having fun being part of the AK List.

Name: Laura Lundy
Name: Laura Piwowarski
Name: Liane Barone

Name: Linda “K”
Location: Seattle, Washington

Yarn: Perhaps Koigu run with a strand of plain.

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: Diagonal rows.

Size Adjustments: I'll be making more diamonds.

Name: Liz Schiffner

Name: Lynda Carraher
Location: Umatilla (eastern Oregon -- not quite the end of the world, but you can see it from here...)

Yarn: “Avanti” (dralon) by Marks & Kattens, sapphire blue.

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: Horizontal method.

Size Adjustments: Will adjust size by casting on more stitches.

Comments: I got two rows done and frogged it because it was toooooooooooo huge. I had figured 2” of ease and the 5-patch version, but the second try, I aimed for my exact bust measurement and the 3-patch. Still looks awfully big, but I'm just about to finish the shoulder diamonds that hook it all together. Then we'll see ... I may actually be knitting along in the knitalong as I try the third time....

Name: Macy Lewars
Location: Buffalo, NY

Yarn: I'm carrying two together, a slubby white cotton/rayon/nylon blend - on the label it says: “LINIE 186 / COLOMBO,” and a sand-colored microfiber called SURF from Katia.

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: Horizontal rows.

Size Adjustments: I'm using size 9 Addi circular, 46 stitches, with a diamond swatch that measured 9 inches across for a finished size of 54 inches (exact bust meas.) with 3 diamonds across.

Comments: My LYS (Elmwood Yarn Shop) helped me choose the yarns - I swatched a beautiful cotton and Glace ribbon, but liked the tweedy look of this combo best. I've never hand-knit a sweater for myself before (ALWAYS HOT!) but the style of this one intrigued me, and it looked so pretty on Carol!

I know I jumped the gun a little, and I'm on my 6th diamond, but I have two graduation afghans to plan and knit, a shrug and a tank top for May 1st for birthday gifts, and socks to finish for ME that I started in October! Plus 8 exchange squares that I promised to do ... 3 blankets-in-progress ... and a darling daughter that will be 3 in July that wants Mommy to “stop knitting and play with me!” So, I'm a little ahead now, but that won't last long!!! LOL!

Name: Margaret MacGregor

Name: Marilyn
Location: Savannah, GA

Yarn: Jaeger Riviera

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: Horizontal

Size Adjustments: In order to obtain the required gauge, I am using size 9 needles.

Name: Marilyn Thompson

Martha

Name: Martha Underwood
Location: Pittsburgh, PA

Yarn: A yarn from my stash. It's a cotton, viscose, acrylic, silk blend with a nubbly texture.

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: I used the Horizontal method.

Size Adjustments: I did a 4 across variation. No sleeves except a bit of twisted ribbing. My arm holes are 1 1/2 diamonds deep. My neck ribbing is 10 rows deep and I did the crochet base first. I did a tunic length.

Comments: This was a fun sweater to make and even more fun to wear!

Name: Mary Waters; I am 41, married, w/one 15 yr. old daughter and 2 cats.
Location: Arcata, CA. We're abt. 260 miles north of San Francisco, on the coast, in Humboldt County (well known for certain “crops!”)

Yarn: I am hoping to use Reynolds “Tiara,” a rayon/silk blend. I love the design of the sweater and decided to splurge to make it dressy. However, as of today I am still waiting for the yarn to arrive, so haven't had time to swatch it yet.

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: I am leaning towards diagonal rows.

Size Adjustments: As I am, like so many others, larger around the hips than bust/shoulders I am going to try to adjust size by changing needles. I haven't ruled out adding diamonds yet.

Name: Melissa Gregory
Location: Olney, Maryland

Yarn: It's by Novita, and I don't remember the exact name! I just ordered it from the LYS. It's a cotton/rayon blend in lavender-grey. I've seen models made with it, and it drapes beautifully. It's a light worsted weight.

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: Going to try the Horizontal method.

Size Adjustments: I don't think I'll have to adjust -- the 42” size in the pattern sounds right (allowing for no ease). I'm making the shorter version, so I don't have to worry about the bust/hip ratio so much. I'll have to see about going down a needle size at the top -- I have narrow shoulders.

Comments: Looks like fun! I hope my yarn comes in soon so I can start on time. I'm not the fastest knitter in the world, unless I'm making baby things.

Name: Merie Lettieri
Location: Lincoln Park, MI

Yarn: Will probably be a cotton/rayon blend, but I haven't purchased it yet.

Horizontal/Diagonal Method & Size: I haven't read the pattern yet.

Comments: I will probably be starting after mother's day (I am planning on getting the yarn as a birthday/mother's day gift).

Name: Mona

Name: Mue Lowden
Location: Dundee on the east coast of Scotland.

Yarn: A DK and 4ply weight beige cotton.

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: Diagonal.

Size Adjustments: I'm working 40 stitch diamonds on 4 1/2mm needles in a ten patch.

Comments: I'm adding sleeves, working in diagonal rows.

Name: Myra Solomon
Location: Tucson, Arizona

Yarn: After swatching enough different yarns to have almost the first row of diamonds done I think I have finally decided on Wendy - Cotton With Linen. It's 80% Cotton 20% linen on a size 8 needle. It's a variegated blue, beige and white and is textured but the pattern in the diamond shows, so the texture will not detract from the pattern. I tried Metro (all rayon that someone said they used) and was going to do it in black and white (afraid I wouldn't have quite enough of either color to do it all) and friends looked at me with a horrified expression that it would look to harlequiny so I scratched that one. I have a beautiful hank of silk but the thought of cutting it up when it is one large continuous hank was more than I could bear. Another yarn was very slick and the ends unravel so the less ends I have when working this the better so that got put back in the stash. I think I ended up swatching 6 different yarns and somehow I ended up with the first one I tried. It's amazing to have a huge stash and have such trouble finding just the right yarn! Anyway unless I swatch again before the 1st - and I'm not planning to - it will be the Cotton With Linen.

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: Horizontal method.

Size Adjustments: I'm casting on more stitches. I think I finally got the right size diamond with 52 stitches. And the yarn calls for size 5-7 needles and I'm going on an 8 - but I rarely knit with what's called for anyway!

Comments: This is my first knit-along and I am really looking forward to it. I have finished 1 sweater, 2 vests and a quilt in the last 3 weeks so that I won't feel guilty starting something new. (That just makes a small dent in my UFO pile, but I guess a small dent is better than none at all. I hope to finish another sweater for me for summer (which is already here) and a pair of socks that are part of the TKGA level 2 master knitter class along with the vest that is one of the finished UFOs mentioned above before the 1st.

Name: Nancy Caro
Location: Aptos, California on the coast, near Santa Cruz.

Yarn: Linor, in Jordan Almond color

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: I plan on using the diagonal rows method.

Size Adjustments: I don't know how I'm planning to adjust the size yet. This is something I want to find out more about. Others have suggested making it to fit our breast measurement and not adding any ease.

Comments: I have been knitting a lot lately. My goal is to enhance my skills and try to knit things that fit. Too many times I find that I have to rip things and do them over.

Name: Nancy Neubert
Location: Maine

Yarn: Vicky.

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: Horizontal.

Size Adjustments: I haven't swatched yet (have to finish that darn CNC first!!)

Name: Nancy Peterson
Location: Elkhart, Indiana (north-central)

Yarn: Either Linor or Reynolds Pebble Beach.

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: Horizontal

Size Adjustments: Definitely will need to adjust size somehow...not sure which method or combination yet. Probably will use a larger needle at bottom (for tunic length) and go to a smaller one on the top to accommodate for my narrow shoulders.

Comments: I knit a DP out of Patons' Cotton Berber last year and wound up throwing it out as it just didn't hang well. Hope with a different yarn, different needles and support to finish a keeper this time.

Update: I am almost finished with my DP in Linor. Just have to crochet around the lower edge...not something I'm looking forward to. I cast on 52 sts for each diamond and it measures 52” around. I used #6 needles and I knit fairly loosely. I went to a #5 after the first three tows of squares and finished with a #4. I have narrow shoulders and the smaller needle didn't adversely affect the drape of the fabric at the top of the sweater. Did the sleeves on the #6 and made them a little longer.

I picked up the neckline stitches with a circular needle and then purled the first row to give it the ridge that appears in the diamonds. Liked this better than two ridges. Then did the 5 rows of twisted rib and bound off. The shaping of the neckline at the shoulders seems to keep it in place nicely and I have narrow, sloping shoulders.

I like the drape of this yarn. I made the shorter version, if that makes any difference, and the additional stitches for width made it a little longer..just enough to cover my tummy.

This was fun to knit and I'd like to make another but don't think I was another in my personal wardrobe as it's so unusual. Guess I'll look around for a “victim.”

Name: Nancy Walpole
Name: Pam

Name: Peggy P
Location: Akron, OH

Yarn: I have several I'm swatching with, most are a cotton/rayon blend, not happy with any of them so far!

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: Horizontal

Size Adjustments: I've adjusted my swatches every which way!

Comments: I cannot seem to get close to gauge on this for some reason, I would like to be in the 4/5 st/inch range and everything is swatching so much smaller. For the first try I would like not to have to recalculate every part of this but I'm looking at a 64 stitch diamond and I only want a sweater that is about 47“-48”! I think most of my yarn is way too thin but I don't have enough quantity to double it. I have made more swatches on this project than on any other...ever!

Name: Risè Burgie
Location: Sacramento, Ca.

Yarn: For the first DP - Bernat Dew Drop...spt wt 50/50 cotton/acrylic 130yds - 13 - 50gm balls.

For my 2nd DP during the knitalong...I'm using Cotton Colors by Patons...It is Deep Violet with 1 ply of variegated yarn in Royal, Turquoise, Jade, Aqua, Magenta, and Fuchsia that is twisted around the other 2 plies of Deep Violet...It is wst. wt. 89yds...and a buck a ball from Smiley's Yarns...I have 14 balls...

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: I used the Horizontal Version for DP #1 and for DP #2 I'm making the Diagonal Version.

Size Adjustments: For my first I've opted for the shorter version, and a gauge of 6 sts = 1 on sz 3.5mm I'm working on 64 sts for a width measurement of 8.25” for a 49” bust + ease.

For my second, I originally planned on a 12 patch using 4 inch diamonds. As I added the last row on the front bottom...my 12 patch instantly became a 10 patch. I had the correct amount of ease with 5 patches across the first row. I cast on 28sts on sz 8 dpn's...and used 2 of them as if they were straight needles. I did 1 repeat of rows 4 - 9...I eliminated the last triangle where the armhole begins which gives me a set in sleeve and will remove the excess fabric that I experienced on DP #1. I was well on my way when I remembered I wanted a tunic length this time. I frogged back a few diamonds...added extra rows and then I eliminated the last triangle for the armhole...I am glad I followed Jill's suggestions to make the Horizontal Version the first time around...as it served as a great measuring tool. From this point to the end I will continue with the same changes as for DP #1. I will adjust the sleeve shaping and make them a few inches longer. I will add the 4 rows of garter st. to the neckline before I begin the 1x1 twisted rib. I will continue the V neck and shoulder decreases as I did for the patches...through to the end of the ribbing...keeping the continuity of the design congruent...

Comments: This pattern works up quickly...I've begun DP #2 during the knitalong as well!

I'd like to thank Jill for designing a great pattern...Carol and Betsy for keeping good notes...and the A'kers who continue to expand my knitting knowledge by their willingness to share...This has been another wonderful and rewarding knitting experience...

Name: Rosalie Smith

Name: Ruth Cook
Location: Murphysboro, Illinois (southern part of the state)

Yarn: I'm swatching with Cottrica: 51% acrylic, 30% cotton, 9% polyester I like the feel of the swatch, but I don't really know if its drapey enough. However, I think I'll work the first one up in this yarn anyway since I have it on hand. I'm also considering using Lion Brand's Microspun for the next sweater.

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: I think for this, my first, I'll use the Horizontal method, since that's the one that Jill suggests.

Size Adjustments: I already have a question. I swatched with a US6 needle using 40 stitches an got a width of 6.25”. At a 45” chest I needed 7.5” for each diamond. So I reswatched using 46 stitches since I liked the material with the size 6 needle. I got exactly 7.5” in this swatch.

I'm planning to do the short version so decided to measure my waist. My waist is 44” but my “gut” is 46”. Should I use the measurement for my chest or try to match my “gut” measurement? If I go up an inch, will it be too big at the top?

Comments: After making two diamond swatches, I have already memorized the pattern. I think this design will be fun and easy to work up.

Name: Ruth Sybers

Name: Sandi Rosner
Location: Sebastopol, CA

Yarn: Microfiber Ribbon from Tess' Designer Yarns.

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: Horizontal.

Size Adjustments: I am using 6 diamonds with 52 stitches each on size 10 needles.

Name: Sherri Mealor

Shelda

Name: Shelda Eggers
Location: Columbia, Missouri

Yarn: Berocco Linor in “agate” green. I bought a cone (approx. 2 pounds) from Cotton Clouds, and have really enjoyed working without additional ends to weave in from all those 50-gram balls. This sweater has enough natural breaks of its own and I used lots of yardage! Sadly, this yarn has been discontinued. This is one of the few times in my life I've used the yarn from the pattern, but I fell in love with the look of the Linor in the cover photo.

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: Horizontal, per the pattern advice for my first attempt.

Size Adjustments: I made the five-across version, with some modifications to narrow the shoulders, much like the ones suggested on the DP Hints Page. They could probably still be narrower, but I have big hips and it's often a challenge to fit both.

Name: Tamara
Location: Aurora, Co

Yarn: I am using this great cone yarn made up of 5 different yarns. Some cottons some rayons some unknown. The yarn works up kinda curly kinda fun.

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: I am using the Diagonal method.

Size Adjustments: I am using a 8 diamond method. It looks like it will work very well. I am also trying to us full diamonds at the arm hole edge.

Comments: This is a very interesting project. I will probably knit more than one.

Name: Teri Pittman
Location: Stevenson, WA

Yarn: Blue Heron Rayon Chenille

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: Horizontal.

Size Adjustments: I had to cast on more stitches. It's a 58 st diamond.

Comments: This is my first time trying the pattern. I was not sure this yarn would be suitable but it seems to be working up nicely. I don't know if there will be a worming problem or not, but I don't think it would be noticeable in any case. I am using two skeins that I won on e-bay, one in Dove and the other in Leaf. I am going to alternate diamonds so that it forms a diagonal line up the sweater. Don't know yet if I will shoot for the tunic, but I suspect I won't have enough yarn. I have a little over 14 oz.

Yarn: I haven't chosen yarn as yet, still waiting for pattern to arrive.

Yarn: I found some Jaeger Jardin substantially reduced in a yarn shop's closing down sale. It's Cerise with bright multi-coloured added texture.

Horizontal/Diagonal Method: I think it will be the horizontal method.

Size Adjustments: I'm not sure yet, I think I've got my swatch right for my bust size.

Comments: I've had the pattern for a while and have been waiting and hoping for a group to knit along with.
