Beth Steinberg

Buffalo, NY; USA

Yarn for Body of Sweater:
I am using the Black Water Abbey Tweed yarn that the pattern calls for, in exactly the colors listed because what attracted me to this pattern months ago was that totally luscious picture of Jillian herself wearing the sweater! Our coloring is pretty similar (medium-to-dark brown hair and eyes & pale skin), so I thought the autumnal palette of colors would be a good choice for me, too.

Flowers:
I purchased all of the yarns (for the body and for the flowers) exactly as described in the pattern. Once the sweater itself is done, I plan to start knitting the flowers and see how it goes....

Special Plans:
Yeah, *chuckle*, I plan to fit into it! I was debating when the pattern was first published what size to make, but then I started trying to lose a bit of weight, and although I'm only down about 12 pounds, it is making a difference in how my clothes fit. So, I'm making the XL size and I plan to fit into it or have it be too big!

Starting: I started this past weekend!

Yarn for Body of Sweater:
Not sure yet.

Flowers:
Not sure what yarn . . . many colors

Special Plans:
It will be the first sweater I've knit for myself! I fell in love with it the moment I saw the pictures on knitty.com & have been patiently waiting for the larger sizes to be added to the pattern.

Starting: This weekend (03/12/04)

Dana Lynne Endersby

Woodstock, Ontario; Canada

Yarn for Body of Sweater:
Patons Classic Merino Wool in black (already in my stash!)

Flowers:
Many colours - still contemplating which combination. Red and shades of grey is tempting right now, but I need not decide for quite a while...

Special Plans:
To see the look on my sister's face the first time she sees me wear it.

Starting: April 2004

Dana Watsham

Korsør, Denmark

Yarn for Body of Sweater:
Handspun black Spelsau, bred by a co-commuter from the morning Intercity train. As close to all-black as you can get without dyeing.

Flowers:
10/2 Merino wool from www.garn.dk in bright primary colours. The plan is to make several sets and interchange them using buttons (or whatever proves to work).

Special Plans:
Since it will be the first time in 15 years I have worked someone else's pattern without change, I want it to be my "in-your-face-drop-dead-gorgeous" garment ..... *S*

Starting: Am almost done with the bodywork.

Davira

Milwaukee WI

Yarn for Body of Sweater:
I have in my stash a nice supply of a beautiful wool blend handspun in a kind of waterlily colorway (aquas, light blues & lilac). It's been in stash so long that I'm not sure what exactly the fiber content is or who I bought it from (it was an ebay purchase). But I think it will be perfect.

Flowers:
No flowers for me. I think the basic structure of the sweater and collar is very elegant and flattering, and want to let the variegated yarn do its thing without distraction.

Special Plans:
I will wear it almost every cool day that requires a sweater or jacket. These are my best colors and the style is perfect for me.

Starting: tomorrow

debbie morrione

Hemet, CA

Deborah Windell

Portland, Oregon USA

Yarn for Body of Sweater:
Blue Sky Alpacas Organic Cotton in sage

Flowers:
More organic cottons in different colors, perhaps hand-dyed with wildcrafted plant dyes, perhaps not.

Special Plans:
Oh, yes! I plan to use fewer flowers and to place them along the collar edge, along with one of Jillian's trademark ruffles at the collar edge from the same sage yarn. I intend to luxuriate in the yarn while knitting it and to wear it with panache while doing my Phenomenal Woman thing.

Starting: First weekend in April

Ellen K

Maryland

Yarn for Body of Sweater:
Harrisville tweed in a deep magenta/fuschia.

Flowers:
Oranges, purples, lavenders, golds. Will decide later how many.

Gloria Smith

Brandywine, MD 20613

Yarn for Body of Sweater:
I'll be using black worsted weight yarn for the body of my sweater. If the sample for this is too thick, then I'll switch to a cotton yarn in either white or off-white.

Flowers:
I'll be using multi colors for the flowers in the same weight yarn as the body.

Special Plans:
I'm an elementary school guidance counselor, and I plan to wear it to school so my 'little ones' can admire it! Depending how well it goes, I'll also make one for my mother.

Starting: During the week of April 5th

Jacqueline M. Williams

Springfield, MA

Yarn for Body of Sweater:
Blue (tad darker than baby blue) with white mohair.

Flowers:
Various shades of blue with white mohair. I do not plan to use as many as shown on the model

Special Plans:
No. This is the first item I have ever knit for myself. I have been knitting for 50 years (had 70th birthday 5 January 2004). It will probably take me forever. Will go to Hancock Fabrics this week to pick out yarns. If they don't have what I need I'll go to Wal-Mart and KMart.

Have to finish baby blanket and little overalls for my great-grand-daughter (born 1-3-04)

Starting: April 2004

Jan Brod

Forest Park Il Usa

Yarn for Body of Sweater:
Peace Fleece Shaba Green

Flowers:
Peace Fleece-burgundy, violet, rose, darker violet, pink (don't have all their wonderful color names close at hand)

Starting: week of 3/8

Janice Farrell Pea

champaign, illinois, usa

Yarn for Body of Sweater:
I have resisted the lure of Folly until today, when I went stash diving over the noon hour -- my "office stash," of course, as opposed to my "home stash," both of which are frequently supplemented by my "trunk of the car stash." Anyway, I have 20 skeins of Noro Shinano, the 65% wool/35% silk blend, in color # 12 -- a beautiful tweedy blend of various blues, with touches of gray, wine, teal, and gold. Am I the only one doing a multi-colored sweater?

Flowers:
Several months ago, when elann had a terrific deal on Peruvian Collection Uros, 50% llama, 50% highland wool, I bought sweater quantities in two colors. And then, on general principle, one or two balls of every color except the pastel pink. At the moment, flowers in teal, gold, wine, and several shades of blue look good for my flowers, picking up the shades in the Shinano tweed. I also have two shades of green, one dark and one light, that may end up being leaves of some sort.

Special Plans:
If I can keep it out of the hands of the three sisters, the three sisters-in-law, the daughter, and the sons' girlfriends -- it's all mine!

Starting: TONIGHT!

Karen

Aberdeen, WA USA

Yarn for Body of Sweater:
I happen to have the yarn used in the pattern in my stash, so that is what I will use.

Flowers:
Probably will use yellows, oranges and golds with maybe some red for contrast.

Starting: good question

Kate Sanderson

Ontario, Canada

Yarn for Body of Sweater:
Lett Lopi in a bright green.

Flowers:
Lett lopi in red, yellow, orange and blue. I was going to use the bright pink, but it has been discontinued. Lopi has discontinued the brighter lett colours, much to my disappointment!

Special Plans:
MINE, MINE, MINE ALL MINE.

Starting: I'm almost finished, actually.

Katie Otto

Lake Mills, WI USA

Yarn for Body of Sweater:
I think I'll go with either the brown shown in the original model/picture, or I might go with black for the body. Of course, once I get in front of lots of luscious yarns, I may change my mind altogether!

Flowers:
If I go with a black body, I think I'm going to do some bright flowers - pink, lime, yellow.

Special Plans:
Not yet - but I LOVED it in the last Knitty issue, and was thrilled to find out it was going to be a KAL!

Starting: Probably mid-April, after I return from a trip to New Orleans. May even buy the yarn on the trip!

Kay O'Brion

Estacada, Oregon

Yarn for Body of Sweater:
Peace Fleece, Zarya Fog (I think that's what it's called) or maybe Volgasippi Blue.

Flowers:
Pinks, purples, blue flowers.

Special Plans:
No

Starting: Probably when I get the yarn :)

Linda Earls

Augusta, Maine

Yarn for Body of Sweater:
Wine colored merino from K2P2 and a lovely cream mohair boucle knitted together for the body and the sleeves. I will probably do the ruffle cuff in the merino without the boucle.

Flowers:
Instead of flowers, I am going to knit the shawl collar in Trendsetter Yarns Dune #82. It is a lovely combination of metallic, mohair, and other fibers in a complimentary color scheme.

Special Plans:
Wearing it whenever I want to feel especially beautiful.

Starting: Started it 3/5/04

Margaret

Toano, VA, USA

Yarn for Body of Sweater:
I'm not sure of the yarn yet, or the colors; I've got thousands of possibilities running through my mind!

Flowers:
I would like to make some flowers; not sure yet if I want to do a tone on tone effect or multi colored.

Special Plans:
To love it!

Starting: Probably next month

Marjorie Holme

Lansing, Illinois, U.S.A.

Yarn for Body of Sweater:
I want to use Cascade 220 wool in a deep mottled blue-green color. I'm having some problems with gauge: On size six needles I get the stitch gauge but not the row gauge; on size 8s I get the row gauge but have too many stitches per 4". I'm still playing (I don't have size 7 needles to try but plan to get some.)

Flowers:
I just bought a lovely variegated yarn on eBay from Caroline's Designs that I plan to use---it's ice-cream colors--vanilla and peach with some lemon, orange and raspberry sherbert. I made up one of the flowers and stuck it on my swatch and loved it. The flowers are nifty and the variegated works well. This is a link to the yarn, but I expect it will only be available as long as the yarn is available.

Special Plans:
It's the first sweater I've knit in many many years, the first cardigan ever. I plan to do short-row bust darts, another first. I think that's enough on my plate for now.

Starting: soon as I have it all together

Marty Mc Neil

Santa Clara, CA USA

Yarn for Body of Sweater:
Purple acrylic worsted. I think it's Lion's wool ease, but I'm not sure. The yarn's in my truck which is in the shop tonight

Flowers:
Rose, yellow, green, different purple, and blue and whatever else srikes my fancy in my stash.

Special Plans:
Right now I think it's going to be my work cardigan for the office.

Starting: 3/9/04 work allowing

Mary Hubner

Pasadena, California

Yarn for Body of Sweater:
Berroco Sensuwool in a plum color--after committing myself to using ONLY stash yarn this year, this was the best option on hand. Depending on how this works up, a workhorse version to keep at the office in LB Woolease sportwt oxford grey is also an option.

Flowers:
It will depend on the finished sweater--from comments about the yarn, it may be a HEAVY project. Adding flowers may not be the best bet for the Sensuwool...BUT I was thinking shades of grey and black for the Woolease version!

Starting: 3/12/2004

Mary McMahon

Cincinnati,OH

Yarn for Body of Sweater:
Lopi Lite.....not sure...probably 1,2 or 3 colors

Flowers:
Oh, Yes...many colors of flowers.

Special Plans:
no...it's mine!

Starting: 8/04

Michelle G.

Sydney, NSW, Australia

Yarn for Body of Sweater:
I'm using a vintage moss green 12 ply wool/nylon I found at an op-shop- however I don't think I'll have enough, so have purchased some variagated 12 ply equiv. mohair for the sleeves.

Flowers:
I'm piking on the flowers (too much for me), and will use some of the mohair instead to make up the shawl collar, and leave it at that.

Special Plans:
No special plans, just to actually finish it to wear for our winter!

Starting: Started late Feb. 2004

Mindy

Fresh Meadows, NY - USA

Yarn for Body of Sweater:
Worsted weight yarn in black.

Flowers:
Not sure. I'll see how the sweater looks without the flowers. If I decide to make them they'll probably be in shades of grey, black & white.

Special Plans:
Just to finish it.

Starting: 1/7/06

Paige

Bountiful, Ut

Yarn for Body of Sweater:
I'm not sure about the type of yarn but I think I'm going to use a dark charcoal.

Flowers:
I'm thinking about some bright jewel tones for the flowers. Bright tourquoise, purple, burgandy.

Special Plans:
Just to make myself something nice, so often I make stuff for others and never for myself!

Starting: This week sometime

Rachael

Shoreline, WA

Yarn for Body of Sweater:
Lion Brand Wool-Ease Chestnut Heather

Flowers:
Lion Brand Wool-Ease Gold, Cranberry, Navy, Purple

Special Plans:
This one is for me.

Starting: Immediately--6/18/05

Rebecca T

Napa, CA

Yarn for Body of Sweater:
Not sure yet, either the chestnut called for in the pattern or a tweedy grey.

Flowers:
Again, I will either follow the colors as given, or if I use gray I will use white, black and shades of gray for the flowers.

Special Plans:
No, just hope to look fabulous in it :-)

Starting: Hopefully May 2004 - After finishing other UFO's

Sharon

Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

Yarn for Body of Sweater:
tweedy gray, maybe Peruvian Highland

Flowers:
coral reds, pinks, and pale yellow

Starting: late summer 2006

Shelda Eggers

Columbia MO

Yarn for Body of Sweater:
I have some Brown Sheep "Fantasy Lace" in stash that I think would work well for the body of this sweater. It's "Rhapsody Blue" and would make a great muted backdrop for the colorful flowers.

Flowers:
I have an idea for the flowers, though I don't really know how it will work. When I was at Threadbear last fall I saw a beautiful boucle yarn from Koigu, "Fancy." It's variegated, so the flower colors would mutate about. I'll have to buy some Koigu (horrors!) and knit one or two flowers to see how this looks, but it sounds fun in theory! One of the things I admire about the original is its elegance, largely due Jillian's sophisticated color palette, and I don't want to knit a garish sweater.

Special Plans:
I plan to do a basketweave pattern for the body of the sweater. That strikes me as an amusing addition. And I will knit a modified set-in sleeve as drop-shoulder sweaters don't suit me.

Starting: Goodness only knows! I get excited about every knit-a-long, sign up, and then other things seem to always get in the way. But it's fun to dream, right?

Susan Manning

Boston, MA

Yarn for Body of Sweater:
Black Water Abbey Yarn, but in a dark grey

Flowers:
I plan to use the specified colors. If anyone wants my extra yarn, let me know. It's yummy yarn!

Special Plans:
I'm not sure what size to make, since I'm days away from having a new baby. It's likely that I'll be bustier from nursing than I'll be when it's done.

Starting: April 1

Tina

Boston, MA
