High Mesa Cardigan Knit-A-Long | |
|
Members of the Ample-Knitters list will be knitting Sidna Farley's High Mesa Cardigan as a group project (also known as a Knit-A-Long or KAL) starting in January, 2005. Thanks to Carol Holihan for agreeing to coordinate this project! The pattern for this sweater is offered free to Ample-Knitters, courtesy of the Brown Sheep Company. Photo is also courtesy of Brown Sheep, and used by permission. |

This pattern is written for a bulky weight yarn (Brown Sheep's Lamb's Pride Superwash), and as bulky weight sweaters aren't always the best choice for ample figures, list member Teresa Hone graciously agreed to do the math for us to adapt the pattern to other gauges (sport, DK, worsted, and heavy worsted), and extended sizes (finished bust measurements from 44-66 inches, in 2-inch increments). Thank you, Teresa! Adaptating the cardigan to these gauges will require some fiddling with the charts as well, and I'm still looking for a volunteer to take that on.
For those who are lucky enough to have collections of older Knitter's Magazines, or are interested in tracking down a sold-out issue, Sidna Farley also designed the "2-end minus one" sweater published in Knitter's #10, Spring 1988. This sweater was designed for Bernat 'Gloucester sport' cotton, and sized for 36, 38, 40, and 42" finished measurements. Sidna devised her slip-stitch patterning for these sweaters after a "wrong" guess at the Swedish technique for 2-end knitting. The patterns for the yokes, sleeves and backs on the "2-end minus one" are different from the High Mesa Cardigan. (Do note that there's a correction for this pattern, published in Knitter's #11. The key for one of the symbols is wrong. This errata is available from the Help section at Knitter's Universe.) |
