Amy Pickard

Lancashire, UK.

Project: A two-tone cardigan - main body in one colour and the sleeves and ribbing in another.

Yarn: Rowan chunky chenille and Jeager Cadiz.

Special Occasion: Yes, my mother's Christmas present. She can't find cardigans in cotton/cotton blends, so I think this will be good for her.

Starting: As soon as the yarn arrives (about the 21st of August)

Anne

Charlotte Court House, Virginia USA

Project: A variation of the Rob Roy Shawl, the pattern from Potwench's site isn't gel-ing in my head, but I've found other versions of the pattern stitch and there is much swatching in my future.

Yarn: Lion Brand, Wool Ease, Sportweight in a light grey. I only have 4 skeins and they don't make it anymore so let's hope I don't screw up.

Special Occasion: I love winter. Curling up on the couch with a nice warm shawl and a good fire, with my knitting or a good book. Mmmmmhhhhmmmmm. I don't do holidays overmuch and we, luckily, don't have some big work party. Yeah!

Starting: ASAP

Aubrey Kenworthy

Edmond, OK

Project: The Lace Work shawl from the July issue of KnitNet. Should be a good beginner's lace project.

Yarn: I'm spinning a gorgeous black alpaca/silvery silk blend into a lightweight sport yarn. I started this yesterday, and this might be the biggest challenge of this project - this fiber is NOT behaving! Worth the work, though - very beautiful!

Special Occasion: Not really - I really need a nice wrap-type thing, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to get off my duff....

Starting: July 11, 2002

Beth Templeton

Coquitlam; BC; Canada

Project: Checkerboard Mesh box jacket from Spring Interweave Knits mag.

Yarn: Pinguoin +france 50%wool/50%acrylic in heathery dark brown with either a gold or red metallic accent woven through the check mesh down either side of the front.

Special Occasion: I'm hoping this will do for the whole holiday season. My work does a special dinner each year in mid December, so I'd like to wear it there.

Starting: July 1st - Canada Day - hooray!

Carol Holihan

Alexandria, VA

Project: Hvitt Sjal from Three-Cornered and Long Shawls

Yarn: right now, a magenta variegated mercerized cotton, but I think it's going to change since I started it and I don't like the thread.

Special Occasion: Just because

Starting: 7/2/02

Carol Hurt

St. Louis MO, USA

Project: An “Angelic Cardigan” from a Christmas Crafts book about 8 years old. The body (light blue) is made of a “butterfly stitch” and there are bottom panels with intarsia angels blowing trumpets. The borders are garter stitch blocks in various vibrant colors.

Yarn: Aurora 8 from Patternworks - waiting for delivery as we speak :)

Special Occasion: Christmas, of course :) Favorite holiday of the year - next to Easter and my Birthday.

Starting: Next week

Carrie Plachta

Plainfield, IL

Project: I am knitting the Prism shawl (Laura Bryant) which was featured by Great Yarns at the TKGA show in Chicago. Each row uses a different yarn and it is finished with Touch Me crocheted on the edges.

Yarn: Cleo, Sunshine, Bon Bon, Trillion - all by Prism (I think there is one one I can't remember). Touch Me by Muench

Special Occasion: No, not really. I bought this at TKGA and really want to knit it up to see it. It's all garter because it is the yarn that is showcased, not the knitting. It's quite impressive and I have gotten many complements on it already!

Starting: I already have!

Carrie Wehmeyer

New Braunfels, Texas; USA

Project: Jill Vosburg's Lacy Starfish Shawl (from Just One More Row!)

Yarn: I am going to swatch with Zephyr (wool/silk) lace weight even though the pattern recommends sportweight. Jill gives instructions for different yarns. If I don't like the looks of it, I will try two strands of Louet Sales mohair. I am trying to knit a nice holiday shawl and use up some stash!

Special Occasion: Our wedding anniversary is December 31st, and we are planning a “wedding reunion.”

Starting: August 1st

Darilyn

Kihei, Maui, Hawaii, USA

Project: Rectangular Diagonal Lace Shawl

Yarn: Jaggerspun Zephyr in “Real Red.”

Special Occasion: The shawl has been specifically designed to wear with my holiday dress for Christmas and New Years. My personal project page may be found on my site.

Jill Trotter

Levittown, Pennsylvania

Project: I am working on Fiddlesticks Knitting's “Creatures of the Reef” shawl.

Yarn: I am using the yarn that came in the kit, an indigo colored merino wool and silk blend (it is yummy!!!)

Special Occasion: Not really, but I figured since I started it about the same time as the KAL, I would put it in- that way I have to finish it!

Starting: started August 10th.

Kirsten Lenius

San Antonio, TX

Project: The Lacy Lattice Stole from Fiddlesticks Knitting

Yarn: Kid Extra Mohair, color: Rich Red.

Special Occasion: Christmas, perhaps... though I'm a bit challenged with the fine yarn, as I knit a bit too tightly.. am swatching madly to try and find the right size needles for me for the project..

Starting: Now

Korwyn Wynde

Suffolk, UK

Project: Maple leaves scarf from HeartStrings FiberArts.

Yarn: For my mom's 60th birthday, some fine handspun. For myself and to give the special silk/rayon yarn offered at the Heartstrings website with the pattern.

Linda Dziekan

Howell, MI

Project: Autumn Lace Kimono from Wool You Order.

Yarn: Dove Grey Grignasco merino/silk lace weight, from Woodland Woolworks.

Special Occasion: My daughter is getting married on Sept 14 - this should be a perfect mother of the bride coverup for a smoky blue dress. In my mind, it looks perfect!

Starting: Started June 29.

Lindsay Ryan

Arizona

Project: I just got some of the Fabulous Filigrees patterns from Pat at the Yarn Barn. I think these will make wonderful gifts.

Yarn: I used Lamb's Wool, nice, soft. Cream colored.

Starting: I got a later start than planned, but still got underway about September 3rd. I finished Sept 6. I used the Lotus Leaves Pattern. All that needs to be done is the blocking, which will be done Saturday. It turned out great. I think my sister will enjoy it. I might need to make some for me! But perhaps just a bit larger.ĘShe is petite. On me (unblocked) it looks just a bit small.

Lori Lynn

Back and forth between NYC and Pocono PA place

Project: I am in thinking and swatching mode right now...I want to make the lace cardigan by Joan M-M of White Lies that was featured on the cover of Interweave Knits. I would knit it in burgundy cotton. I also have some coordinating red mohair, red metalic, red ribbon and fabulous gold and red buttons. I was planning to double strand the mohair and metalic, using the ribbon for trim. However, I have recently been bitten by the lace bug, so I may do something different. I was considering a fitted feather and fan lace cardigan. I have been wanting to knit a cuff-to-cuff dolman lace sweater and have some green kid mohair slated for it. I typically design my own patterns, or modify other's designs to fit. I have ample shoulders and bust with relatively smaller waist and hips...my front length is 2-3” greater than my back, so I need to do serious pattern adjustments. I am also recovering from a serious car accident. Neck injuries affect my hands. (I also gained 50lbs, which I have lost plus 20 more and counting...nothing fits right now. Designing for myself is like hitting a moving target.) I knit slower and less than I used to...but appreciate it more. My guy says that I should wear more fitted clothes...he hates my comfy tunic sweaters. He likes my curves and thinks that I should show them off. I always knit a coordinating dog sweater for my “fur baby.”

Yarn: Still deciding, but probably mohair and metalic, or cotton. I LOVE buttons, so I will use some special ones. (My dog votes for mohair...)

Special Occasion: Not yet ... but I will, even if it is dinner at my place for a couple of friends.

Starting: Soon

Lynn Park

Alameda, CA

Project: Neckwarmer from Sara Bradberry's site, which she got from Nova Scotia. It will look good with low necks and also over white silk or black velvet.

Yarn: Drop-dead red Trendsetter Sunshine (#10)--or King Cole Soft as Silk DK, also drop-dead red without the glitz and possibly a bit easier to work with. I have a thing for red.

Special Occasion: Whenever I get it done will be a holiday!

Starting: Sometime between now and the 12th of Never

Margaret (Peggy) Oltmans

Quarryville, Pa.

Project: I am planning to knit the Shrug Me Tender from Jill Vosburg. It seems very festive.

Yarn: The yarn will be the recycled silk yarn in the kit. I am intrigued by the yarn and am anxious to see the results.

Special Occasion: I plan to have it for the holidays--just in case we are invited to any parties. I will be ready!

Starting: mid-july when it comes.

Maureen Taylor

Fargo, ND USA

Project: Philosopher's Wool Tradition Cardigan

Yarn: Philosopher's 2 ply Wool in Navy, Dark Blue Heather, Dark Purple Heather and Alberta Green

Special Occasion: No special occasion, I want to wear the cardigan as a jacket this Fall and early Winter.

Starting: 27 June 2002

Monica Schafer

Portland, OR USA

Project: Ann Norling's Adult Pull Over Basic - a basic pattern in umpteen sizes and gauges with different neckline treatments. (available from many sources; I bought mine from the Patternworks catalog.) It's perfect for fancying up with textures stitches, cables, etc. I'll be making it tunic length and using a wide, round neckline. I'm adding a wide staghorn cable up the front, with possible later additions of shorter cables above the bust point, as my hips are about 10” wider than my bust - it'll need a lot of pulling in as I get towards the top, and I may need more than just the effect of going down in needle size.

Yarn: A discontinued yarn from Italy, no mfr. name, called 'Pasti' - a knit ribbon, 55% wool, 45% acrylic, in a lovely bright raspberry. Knits like a dream! Great stitch definition. Bouncy with lots of memory, so even in a tunic length, shouldn't stretch out disastrously.

Special Occasion: No, just want to get myself a nice winter sweater that isn't too hot, an actually *finish* it!

Starting: began in mid-June

Mue Lowden

Dundee, Scotland

Project: Autumn Lace Kimono by Wool You Order

Yarn: A laceweight ribbon in maraschino red (hopefully still to swatch it)

Special Occasion: The family Yule/Christmas celebrations

Nina Elsohn

Pacifica, CA USA

Project: Elizabeth Zimmerman's Pi Are Square Shawl with center panels in Feather and Fan from Barbara Walker's Treasury.

Yarn: Ebay find! Red, cranberry really, 80% cashmere 20% silk from Cherry Tree Hill.

Special Occasion: Our annual Chanukah party - but hoping it wil be done by my birthday in August. (cold and foggy, usually, in Pacifica!)

Starting: June 30, 2002

Pat Meyer

Edison, New Jersey

Project: I just found delightful Nativity graphs, which give the entire group, minus the stable. That I can graph for myself. I am planning to use a basic raglan pullover in DK with a beige background, since the figures have so many colors. I will make one for myself and one for my granddaughter. Emma is only two, so hers will be a size 4, and mine will be “ample.”

Yarn: Haven't decided on the yarn yet, I intend to get out my Patternworks catalog to look at colors available. Also considering WoolEase Sport, since there is a good color selection there also.

Special Occasion: As they are Nativity Pullovers, they will definitely be for Christmas.

Starting: By August 1.

Prudent Purl

Madison, Alabama

Project: Nine holidays scarves for 2005. My family gets together the first weekend in December and we go Christmas shopping. Just the sisters and cousins, all women; no kids, no husbands. We all wear matching sweatshirts. For 2005 I'd like for all of us to have somewhat matching scarves.

Yarn: I have no clue, yet. I'm looking for some red and green colors, of course but it has to have some sparkles in it.

Special Occasion: The Easter Clan shopping trip.

Starting: January 2005

Renee Samuelson

Bald Knob, Arkansas

Project: Although I live in Arkansas, we celebrate Christmas with family in Minnesota, so I need something warm. Since I'm a casual person, (and since I already have waaaaaaay too many projects on the needles), I decided my Holiday KAL is going to be a UFO. I am working on the Jenny cardigan from Philosophers Wool, only using Brown Sheep worsted for the wool. I am doing it with the main color in sable, and shades of green, dark red, gold, light blue, sage, and beige. I had both sleeves done before I bogged down, but I started on the body and it's a looong way around :-) Time to pick it up again so I have it to wear for Christmas!

Yarn: Brown Sheep worsted, 85% wool, 15% mohair

Special Occasion: Just Christmas in Minnesota with the family.

Starting: July 8th

Threesa Milligan

Everett, WA

Project: An ankle length lace skirt. The skirt will have a border of Madiera Cascade, a lace pattern from the Barbara Walker First Treasury of Stitches. The lace will continue in four panels with four panels of stockinette stitch alternating. The width at the bottom is 84” and I'm not yet sure how much I will decrease and how much I will just gather at the waist.

Yarn: Zepher - a lace weight blend of wool and silk - in “claret,” a dark red.

Special Occasion: I have several Christmas events for which I need a dressy outfit and this would fit the bill.

Starting: Started end July, 2002
