Adrienne Cline

Las Cruces, NM USA

Yarn: I am going to use Red Heart Super Saver Multicolor. The color is 0310 Monet. I think it is beautiful. It has a lot of shades of Purples, greens, blues, a little yellow, and some of the lighter lavenders border on a pretty shade of pink.

Special Plans:
To wear it as much as possible, to have it done -along with other knit items- to take to WV in July to impress my MIL.

Starting: 4/1/02

Progress Report, 4/9/02:
I have started the LL, and have gotten as far as the First LL.

Barbara Cobean

Gig Harbor, WA

Yarn: Hand dyed merino - light worsted from Fancy Image Yarns in Shelton, WA. The owner, Myra Hansen, does a beautiful job dyeing her yarns.

Starting: started in March. Couldn't wait.

Bev Heitke

Stoughton, WI

Yarn: I am not sure what I am using yet. I have some cotton in my stash but I may buy some new too.

Starting: April 1, 2002

Bonnie Hayes

Nelson, NE, USA

Yarn: Using a wool yarn from England that I got on e-bay. No brand name. It is antique gold in color.

Special Plans:
This is my first top-down sweater. I am planning to make the sleeves to come down to the wrist and make the sweater longer to cover my you know what. Also because I am both tall and ample I need it longer in sleeves and length.

Starting: Already started

Brenda Stephens AKA Brenda in AZ

Phoenix, Arizona, USA

Yarn: Tahki Cotton Clasic, Color #3930 deep purple. Looks almost black to me, bought from Medrith at her Woolroom with the pattern in October 2001 during her Retreat.

Special Plans:
No special plans for it, but it will be the first sweater I have made. Taught myself to knit out of a book during the past couple years. Definitely looking forward to this!

Starting: April 1, 2002

Carol Hurt

St. Louis, Missouri USA

Yarn: I used Classic Elite's Bazic wool from Jane's Knitting Hutch in Appleton, WI(1-920-954-9001). Bazic is 100% superwash - 65 yards per 50 gms, 4 sts/1 inch on #9.

Special Plans:
I picked out a beautiful Coral color which is fashionable this Spring. When DH and I first started dating, he liked a coral sweater I had :)

Carol's already finished! Here's a photo of her beautiful sweater!

Carol's Legal Loopholes

Click here for a photo of Carol's sleeve detail.

Carol's notes

I did 7 legal loopholes as described in Medrith's pattern and fused my neck opening at loophole # 5 which turned out perfect for my size 52” (finished).

I knit the sleeves with the decreases as in the pattern until they measured 2” and then proceeded with the same seed stitch slit and edge as done on the bottom of the sweater.

This is a great pattern and I will do it again. I would probably make the collar a little more generous. i.e. cast on more stitches, but it's okay the way it is. Thanks Medrith!

Starting: April 10

Cath Stevenson

Monterey, Ca

cheryll

Yarn: I am not positive, I just received the pattern in the mail yesterday. I do have some Berrocco cotton Twist. Have to check the gauge on the pattern (but I can always change that....)

Special Plans:
Try to FINISH it!

Starting: after the holidays

Cyndi Cassidy

Quesnel, BC, Canada

Yarn: Patons Impressions (37% Acrylic/32% Cotton/24% Wool/4% Polyester/3% Viscose)in a colour called Mallard; and Patons Cotton Knitting Worsted in white.

Special Plans:
At the beginning of March I started the sweater with just the Impressions yarn and it was turning out beautifully and the pattern was really easy to follow. However, I got the sleeves finished and was working on the body and realized that it was going to be MUCH shorter than I had envisioned and I knew I'd never wear it like that soooooo.......I frogged it back to the collar! Went searching through my stash and found the white cotton yarn and decided that I'm going to use it along with the Impressions yarn. The Impressions yarn has nice white cotton slubs in it so I thought that I would do one row with the impressions and one row with the white cotton so the sweater will have an overall blended look.

Cyndi got carried away with her “Legal Loopholing” and made a dress!

Cyndi's notes:
Here are 2 photos of my LL that I took with my webcam. Interesting experience! I think I need a cordless mouse! As you will see my LL became a dress. I'm not 100% satisfied with it, there's a few design flaws that I'll correct on my next dress but overall I'm pleased with it and it's a nice cosy housedress for rainy days like today.

About the fabric:
Several of us on the Ample-Knitters list were fascinated with the fabric Cyndi had gotten on her borders. Here are her notes: “The bottom band isn't moss stitch, it's a mesh lace stitch, (yo, k2tog). I did one row of each colour until I ran out of blue then continued in white until I ran out of that too. I wish I had done the whole skirt in the mesh stitch, I like the way it looks with the two colours.”

Starting: April 1

Dana Foss

Dixon, California

Yarn: Have not decided yet...possibly handspun, possibly Darlaine 25% wool

Special Plans:
Something finally for ME!

Starting: April 1 2002

Ellen

Queens, NY; USA

Yarn: I'm not sure - I need to check the stash, and find out more about the pattern...

Special Plans:
It will be the first real piece of clothing I knit for myself (I have two never-ending projects and made some scarves, and I knit a lot of gift stuff, but I haven't made any clothing for myself yet.)

Starting: the week of 9/12/2005

Glenna Stansifer

Independence, CA, USA

Yarn: Novita Cottonella (54% cotton, 46% acrylic) - a textured cotton yarn in a plum color.

Glenna sent a photo of her Legal Loopholes, with this note, “[This is] my Legal Loopholes in progress, showing the collar done and needles in the placket ribbing and another in the body. I'm liking this yarn a lot.”

Glenna's Legal Loopholes in progress

Starting: 4/1/02

Gloria Smith

Waldorf, Maryland

Yarn: Undecided at the moment. I just now saw this on my email, and I'll be mailing out the payment for the pattern this afternoon. I'll post to the list once I do a couple of samples.

Special Plans:
Yes! Depending on how it goes, the first one is definitely mine. If I do a good job, I'll make one each for my Mom and my Daughter.

Starting: Today is 4-3-02 and I'm mailing payment out today. So, I'll start as soon as I get the pattern in the mail.

Jan Mosley

Goodview, VA

Yarn: Possibly Provence.

Special Plans:
For ME!!

Starting: April 1st or as soon as I get the info.

jean nancollas

winner, south dakota

Yarn: once the pattern arrives, I will delve into my stash in the basement and see what catches my eye. Will probably use some of my green wools that I have down there. But have ordered the pattern and am eager to see what its all about.

Special Plans:
Will probably give it to my daughter in Calif. or keep it for myself. I always have plans of knitting for myself, but they always seem to find homes elsewhere. Isnt that the plight of most knitters?

Starting: as soon as the pattern arrives.

Jeanette M-H

Southwest Missouri Ozarks

Yarn: Rose Heather Worsted Weight Woolease--will be treating this as a DK weight yarn (like I always do with Woolease-Worsted Wt).

Special Plans:
I'm making this for me with a matching one for my daughter (if I have enough yarn left over). I have made the circumnavigated cardi and enjoyed Medrith's pattern. I look forward to knitting this one up--hope I have enough needles. A friend of mine is also making this up and have seen the flying mobile of needles from the collar.

Starting: April 12, 2002 while attending a local PowWow.

Lorna Hanrahan

Starting: soon

Mary Hubner

Pasadena, Southern California

Yarn: Lion Brand Wool-Ease, in Color # 140 Rose Heather.

Special Plans:
I really have to up-size this pattern, which is written for a 49” (w/ease) bust, and a length of 22”. I am looking to get finished length of 34 ”, and a 67” bust, w/ease. I bought well over 2000 yds of yarn, so I think this will be enough, but... Oh well, choice is scary, isn't it?

Starting: April 1, 2002

Mary Jefferson

Juneau, Alaska

Yarn: Artful yarns “Fable”

Special Plans:
I hope to use little bits of information from the sweaters already done. I've made my collar 4” deep and on my way to the 2nd set of legal loopholes!

Starting: June 30 2002

Mary has finished her sweater too!

She writes, “Sorry there is no modeling but the kitties are not good at taking pictures...(I live alone!)”

Mary's Legal Loopholes

Myra Solomon

Tucson, Arizona

Yarn: I am using Majorca by Baruffa - Lane Borgosesia. It is 60% cotton 40% acrylic which I am hoping will keep it from stretching. It is in an orangy-coral color.

Starting: April 1

Nannette

Connecticut

Yarn: Still shopping! Forerunners in the yarn choice catagory are Galway, Cascade 220, Paton's Rustic Wool, Encore and Lamb's Pride.

Special Plans:
This is my very first sweater EVER! Hopefully it knits up easily and fits!!

Starting: as soon as I figure out a yarn!

Ninon Anderson

Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Yarn: that is the question.....having problems finding something I like and available in Canada....and not too bulky

Special Plans:
Yea, want to wear it this summer, but all the cotton yarn I find is questionable as to stretch or shrinkage....can not find a blend I like and I don't want wool blend for summer....gets hot up here in Canada.....so it might turn out to be a winter shirt at the rate my yarn hunt is going.

Starting: when I can find yarn I like

Patricia Keith

Rome, Ga., USA

Yarn: 1824 cotton in aubergine

Special Plans:
I would like to make it a little longer.

Starting: already started

Pattie Brixen

San Francisco

Yarn: Mountain Colors' Mountain Goat in “Yellowstone.”

Special Plans:
I might change the collar shape slightly...

Starting: Soon!

Patty Hendrickson

Hoquiam, WA

Special Plans:
This will be the first thing I have knit for myself.

Starting: I plan to start as soon as I can get the pattern.

RubyAnn Chase

Gananoque, Ontario, Canada

Yarn: Forever -Stahl sche Wolle - white 80% acrylic/ 20% wool

Notes on the sweater:
My gauge was 4 1/2 stitches per inch, and wanting to have a finished 50”, I knew I needed a total of 225 stitches. I did 5 loopholes, plus 10 more eyelets. I fused the lapel at the fourth last eyelet, but should have done it before. My length, under the arm, was 12” plus the border. I wanted longer sleeves, so I did 4” before I started to decrease. Then I decreased every 4th row, at each side of the marker. At 60 stitches I changed to every 6 rows until I got to 52 stitches, then I knit plain until 1 1/2 inches from end. I also found casting off on the 'wrong side' with a knit cast off gave it a really nice finish.

Starting: April 1

Shelda Eggers

Columbia, Missouri

Yarn: Mission Falls “1824” Cotton in “Ebony”. This is a heavy worsted weight, “nubbly” cotton. I've swatched (on US 7/4.5mm needles), and am happy with my swatch.

Special Plans:
I'm making my sweater 64” at the bust, and I'm not entirely sure that the increase ratio Medrith has established will work for my size and gauge. I talked to Medrith on the phone, and she wasn't sure either, so this will be an adventure! I plan to do some spreadsheet calculations like I did for the “More Than a Sweatshirt” Knit-ALong to be sure I'm happy with the increase rate before I get very far along with the knitting.

Starting: 4/2/02 (I'm not starting on the 1st because I'm committed to “UFO Mondays!”)

Sheryl Roethlinger

Springfield, Illinois, USA

Yarn: Crystal Palace Appaloosa Silk, 60%wool, 40% silk, getting 4.5 stitches/in but swatching showed the silk stretches it to 4 sts/in. Colorway is a medium dusty blue, with black strands spun in. As I am a loose knitter, I went down 2 needle sizes from those specified in the pattern to obtain gauge.

Special Plans:
I don't need to alter the pattern at all since I will be working to the same bust measurements as Medrith shows in her pattern and my after washing gauge is also the same. I love all the details in this pattern, so will mindlessly follow directions (except for needle size as mentioned above).

Starting: 03/09/02

Teresa Loney

Alexandria, Virginia, USA

Yarn: Not sure yet. Still awaiting pattern -- just ordered it! Hopefully I have something in my stash, but if not I'll just have to warm up the credit card.

Special Plans:
For me, me, me!!!!

Starting: As soon as I receive pattern!

Wanda Simpson

Dawson Creek, BC, Canada

Yarn: I am not sure what yarn I will be using yet, probably a cotton though.

Special Plans:
I plan to finish the sweater before my birthday in June. This will be only the second sweater I have made for me.

Starting: As soon as the pattern arrives and I have the yarn.
