Three Fabulous Sweaters from Maureen Taylor

Here are three sweaters from Maureen Taylor, who signs herself on the Ample-Knitters list “Maureen in Fargo”

Maureen's A-Line Aran

The Aran Cardi is the A-Line Aran Cardigan from Knitters 53, Winter 1998. I didn’t swatch very well for this one, so it ended up fairly large. It doesn’t look too bad in this picture because of the way I’m standing and holding it in, a prime example of how photography can mislead! I used yarn from Ireland that I purchased through the Blarney catalog a few years ago, before I knew about lists and all the on-line sources of yarn, not to mention my LYS. This is the sweater that led me to get to know Carol McCollum, a fellow Ample-lister and knit-buddy of mine. This photo was taken outside our B&B in Doolin, County Clare, Ireland.

Maureen’s Self-Designed Aran

This Aran is a sweater I designed, using Black Water Abbey yarn in Bracken, purchased at Stitches Midwest 2001. I have designed and knit a number of Aran pullovers but this is my most successful, fit-wise. I received compliments on it from several people involved with knitting and selling Aran handknits in Ireland including Anne O’Maille, the organizer of the knitters for O’Mailles in Galway, the premier Aran handknit shop there. Needless to say, I am pretty proud of it.

Maureen's Philosopher’s Wool Cardigan

The Philosopher’s Wool Cardi is the Tradition Pattern from Philosopher’s Wool. The kit was purchased on-line and was lots of fun to knit. I used navy, blue heather, purple heather and Alberta green for the colors, not a lot of contrast but I wanted a subtle colorway. I did my first steeking with this sweater, using Rick Mondragon’s crocheted steek that I learned in his class at Stitches Midwest 2001. This photo was taken outside our B&B in Trim, County Meath, Ireland.
