Nancy G’s Cable Tee

Nancy G's the latest Ample-Knitter to finish our fun Cable Tee knitalong and send me photos! It's great fun to hear about these sweaters on the list and then get to see the evidence. List member Maureen Taylor really started something with her original Cable Tee!

When Nancy finished her sweater, she posted to the list, just bubbling with excitement. Here's the story of her sweater in her own words:

“I finished my cable tee yesterday. Well it was done a week or so ago, but I finally got around to sewing in the sleeves, and tucking in all the skein beginnings and endings. I find that I have to be in the right frame of mind to finish up sweaters! I tried it on, and is it ever fab! It looks like I know what I am doing when it comes to knitting for myself!

This is the first pattern that I did short rows in (only 5, but that was 10 rows), and the garment fits me, well kinda sexy-like! Oh, it's very nice... I used Tahki's Cotton Classic, which I had gotten from Elann last summer. What a lovely yarn. What a great pattern!

I did agonize over some of the pattern items:

  • The twisted rib. I wanted to do the twisted rib, I though it looked "neat," but when I did it, it did slant slightly, but I did it anyway and it looks great!

  • The cable, I agonized over the twisted purl stitch in the middle of the cable; I thought it looked good, but would I remember to use it for every row and do it correctly? Yes, I did!

  • The short rows; how many and where to put them? I really agonized over them! But with all the help from this list, I put them in and they are great!

  • The yarn; it was suggested to use a cotton blend, but I wanted to use 100% cotton. I went with that choice, and it looks great!

  • Fitted sleeves; I thought there was a mistake with the pattern, but what a great fitting sleeve! Very nice!

  • I went ahead and after I did my swatch, I knit the body in the round. I am much faster knitting than purling. I had to "reword" the cable stitch pattern, and I did and it looks great!

For anyone hesitating over whether or not to do this pattern, I say, "Go for it!"
