Sarah Beach's Cuff-to-Cuff

The Cuff-to-Cuff Knitalong was very popular with the Ample Knitters! Here is Sarah's version, modified somewhat from the pattern Sue Esser graciously shared with the list.

Sarah says that she had a lot of fun knitting this pattern. She wrote, “I did the whole thing in seven weeks which is pretty speedy for me. I knit reasonably fast, but I have a definite shortage of free time!”

Thanks to Sarah for sharing the photo and the details of her sweater!

Yarns I used:

  • Baby loop mohair (pink/purple/blue variegated) doubled
  • Smooth wool yarn (pink/purple/blue variegated) tripled
  • Classic Elite Avalon ñ angora/alpaca/lambs wool (pink) tripled
  • Emu superwash wool DK (blue and purple solids) doubled

I made a lot of adjustments to the pattern:

  • I used provisional cast ons and bind offs so I didn't have to decide what trims I wanted to use until I was almost done. I ended up using I-cord for all of the trim at the bottom edge and on the front button bands. This also allowed me to graft the side seams which I think looked better and reduced bulk in the seams.

  • I used 2 circular needles (the same method you can use for socks) since I don't have very long circular needles.

  • I shortened the length because I'm short.

  • I made a v-neck instead of a round neck.

  • I made a mistake in the color pattern early on so I gave up following it and made up my own. I did make the 2 sides symmetrical.

  • I used 5 colors because I didn't have enough of all of the colors to use 4.
